you guys knew I'd chime in here, right?lol. GET RID OF THE WASHER BOTTLE AND FLUID....it's good for about 15lbs...next, remove passenger seat and if you're serious, get a lightweight racing seat for the driver side. Like stated before, remove all a/c componets, carpet and swap run flats for regular tires(saves a few pounds on each corner). If this is for drag racing, then run at 1/4 tank of gas( saves about 70lbs over full). Swap battery for lighter optima battery. It's pretty hard to make a car thats already pretty light any ligher without making it into a hideous version of its'self. You can always diet up until race day, good for about 2-5lbs a week...lol.

Spare tire LOL, and don't forget the jack too!

Battery relocation doesn't typically reduce weight (it can actually add weight due the added length of cables and wiring) but it does help shift it back which helps in drag racing, road racing and safety.
A lightweight battery (I had one in my Z28 for a while) in the stock location can save up to 22 pounds off the nose alone.

Lightweight seats and/or removal of passenger seat.
Magnesium or carbon fiber rims (skinny ones up front if drag racing)
Non runflat tires
Remove front sway bar (again for drag racing duty only)
Titanium exhaust (or none at all)
Carbon fiber hood and other body panels
Lexan windows
Removing the air bags and stereo system (along with the A/C and carpets/sound deadening mentioned above)

It will not be easy (nor inexpensive ) to get the car down to 2800 pounds without really cutting it up but it is possible.

the biggest non invasive weight removal will be racing seats and lightweight battery, those items could save you close to 100LB. You can save around 30LB with two piece rotors.

I think one of the Optimas might be a tad lighter (couple pounds) but not enough to justify getting one until the stock one dies.
But, you can get the Hawker Genesis or Odyssey lightweight batteries and those ARE lighter.
But be careful if you have a full stereo/DVD system and/or an underdrive pulley in the car with these tiny batteries, could mess with the charging system a bit.

Lots of folks on the Lotus forum are obsessed with weight , me included. Exhaust, headers, intake, Oddyssey battery, no air bags (including changing the steering wheel), carbon fiber seats, and lexan windshields are all typical measures to reduce weight. An Elise can get well under 2000 lbs

Roughly 20 - 24 pounds.
I know a lot of autocrossers take their roofs out when they run but I don't think it's necessarily to save weight.

What about a dynabatt? they only weigh 13 lbs. I used to use one for daily driving in my 02 Z28. The thing also has enough juice to start my duramax diesel pickup, I tried it.

Yes but not TOO close to it...you never how many passes you're going to get (you get very bad fuel economy at constant full throttle LOL) and you want to maintain that fuel pressure and certainly not starve/heat up the fuel pump. The fuel pump relies on proper fuel levels not only to feed it enough to send up to the motor but also to cool the pump as well. And that pump is essentially a non replaceable unit mounted inside the tank, a real chore to change/repair it if it burns out so don't run it too low.

The Dynabatt is almost identical to the ones I'd mentioned above, that's a great way to save some weight on a budget.

Default Weight Reduction

I swapped out my 19 x 10s for 17 X 9.5s in the rear w/ Mickey Thompson ET Street Drag radials-That reduces "Rotating mass/weight" And I get awesome Traction!

They said it last 5 to 10 years.

A little less costly is this battery: http://www.gotbatteries.com/Productp...ctNum=37L105S1
