Just got back from driving home from the Museum. 940 miles on my new 08.
First, anyone who says the 08 console isn't hot either got a very different car that me or mine has serious problems. My arm is all messed up from sitting on the hot armrest for 16 hours.
The side is also hot, but wasn't really a nuisance, the cup holders will make your coca cola hot Cola in about 10 minutes.
But even worse is my trunk area is roasting as well. The museum had me store things in both rear compartments and both of them got very hot. So hot in fact that the paper badge I had encased in one of those clear plastic badge holders heated up enough to the point where it got pliable.
The rest of my stuff just sitting in the trunk was quite hot as well. I'm assuming this is from the mufflers?
I was thinking of intalling one of those tunnel plates but this isn't really a nuisance. Its more of a fire hazard in my opinion. Does anyone else have the issue in the trunk as well? I don't see how the tunnel plate could fix that?

I thought the 05's were hot, but you are the first Member here that has complained about it to this extent, something doesn't sound right ..shouldn't be this uncomfortable in terms of heat..I would have the dealer look at it,, a friendly one in your neck of woods..Good luck on your new beast..
The car is hot; the way to cool it down is to pull everything out and install insulation. I have done this to two Vettes, and it has helped to reduce the tunnel and rear heat areas. Insulation under the car, in the tunnel area, could help too. Easy to do, but time and ($) consuming....
so you are saying all C6's are hot in the rear like that? Granted this was a long 940 mile trip, but it was roasting hot after the first day of 300 or so miles. Of course I won't be doing that very often, still it is a little worrysome.

I have an '06 coupe. I have had the entire car insulated with dynamat extreme. In fact, my installer put 4 layers of it throughout the console area and it will still melt gum if left in there. If you figure it out, please post the solution.
I think the heat is the nature if the beast. Insulation can help and also deaden sound, so that sounds like a good thing to do. The aftermarket coated tunnel plates are also supposed to help cut down on the console heat.
I have not checked the rear storage, but I noticed the same thing in the console on my trip home - much hotter than either of the 05's I had. I'm very surprised GM has not addressed this. It would be quite easy for a factory fix.
I only noticed the rear storage because I had things stored there, one thing was an aerosol can I got from the museum, it got quite hot along with the other things. I understand that compromises have to be made, but sheesh, those of us with these things for DD's need to be able to put some stuff in it.

I'm just curious, do you guys experiencing the extreme heat have the NPP exhaust? The side of the console (by my leg) gets pretty warm on my 07 but not the armrest. And my trunk gets warm but not hot.
I have the NPP. I also have the side by my leg getting pretty warm, but the armrest is definately warm to hot and inside the armrest could be used for cooking things.
The main issue I have with the trunk is the entire inside is hot, not like I can just avoid it when I put things back there.
However the first 300 miles of my trip, I wasn't doing much with the car as it was breakin time so I don't know that the npp would make a difference? maybe it runs hotter?

My '06 gets super hot in the back, too.
My buddy and I drove 3,800 miles home from the museum. We packed our stuff in backpacks which we kept in the trunk. At night when we checked-in to hotels, we'd put the backpacks on and it was like putting on a sweatshirt that had just come out of the dryer. No, make that the oven.
I've noticed that the heat really goes ballistic if you get on it (which makes sense, of course). It correlates pretty closesly with oil temperature. Cruising around, it's not so bad... hot-rodding in the mountains, the footwells and seat backs are roasting.

geez, when I first noticed it roasting, I was just babying it down the highway that whole time around 70-80, couldn't get on it at all, hope it doesn't heat up more.
