Cam Without Headers

Imho
IMHO! do the cam and a tune, people seem to be spending an awful lot of money for headers and mufflers and tunes and not getting much in HP. for spending 2 to 4 thousand. mine's bone stock mn6 and with the wrong generic tune it's puting 364 to the ground, now that I have the right tune in it I want to see what it's got now before the next step??? Yes you will get a great gain with a cam and no headers. I fail to see why some act as if there wont be a gain from getting the cam first. If you were to get a 50hp jump from a cam with headers there isnt any reason to think that getting a cam and seeing 45hp without headers makes the mod any less valuable. I can be the devils advocate here and say headers would gain more after the cam so getting headers without a cam is a waste.
The power you dont get from the cam will simply be added to the power gained when you eventually get headers. This rule applies for heads too. A tuner recently added a set of heads to a stock cam car and netted 25rwhp and 30rwtq. There is zero driveability issues and yet some insist that heads without a cam is a waste. The heads were L92's and the current 2008 C6 now comes with nearly the same cam and those heads yet some are so shocked it gets the power to the ground that it does....go figure. I installed better heads before my cam since I modded my C6 before tuning software was available.
There is no rule as to what mods to do first but I usually tell people to get mods that add to the power band that you use most often in your application. If your car is a daily driver only and you dont live at the redline drag racing on the street, then my advice is to get gears first as they will net you the most fun on the street. It adds to the performance in the rpm band you drive at. A cam is only for top end and will not show any gains below 3500/4000 rpm. Heraders work their magic all over the power band but for the same price as gears they dont even come close to the performance gain.

The 2 transmissions in the C6 manuals are the MM6 and the MZ6. The MM6 has the normal gearing and the MZ6 (comes with the Z51 option)has the equivalent of 3.90's in it. Both transmissions work fine with 4.10's. I have the MZ6 with 4.10's heads/cam/nitrous. Its a best bet mod.

Also, will a head changeout result in power throughout the band or does this give you the same results as a cam? I'm not doing heads this time but am thinking about the 205 AFR's later. Are the 205's Ok for my application (Have the FAST Intake)?
To stay on topic, I'm doing a cam 228/232 -112 as well as CAI, FAST, Headers, UD pulley, 160 stat and a Tune. We are scheduled now for 8/23 and 8/24 for the install!

Yes but it's like building a house and starting with the roof. Do headers first. Headers only, will not require a tune. A tune will get you 5 RHWP at most so save the $ untill you get the cam. Also a Cam without heads will rob you of the full potential of the mods. Go with a proven combo.
