OK, I know this sounds weird, but I am trying to find out if it is normal.
Here is the situation - with the AC (Climate Control) off and driving down the road, my leg gets heated. The problem is, it is not due to heat rising from the tunnel area, but rather I feel warm air being blown by my right leg coming from it looks like a vent or something underneath.
If I turn on the AC, there is no more warm air. So I am wondering is that vent down there always open or something? Or is something wrong with the system? Thanks!
Before you shut off the system, what was the auto temp set at? I believe if it is on the higher side, the heater core valve is open and therefore the air being brought in while driving is going to be warm. I always set the temp down to 60 before I shut the system off (as well as run the system for 10 to 15 minutes with the A/C compressor turned off to dry the evaporator).
The other thing you can do is press the recirc button with the system off. This will prevent the outside air from coming in when driving so you won't have cold or warm air blowing on you.
Poor design of the system. There is no provision for outside air only, you have either A/C or Heat.(or both to reach the set temp). You have to set a temp lower than outside air temp and that makes the A/C compressor run.
ie; My car on an 80° day, interior temp set at 80° runs the A/C compressor. 80° day with no temp set I get warmer air from the vents.75° day inside temp set at 80°, A/C compressor runs. 75° day no inside temp set I get warmer air thru the vents.
