Default Gears Thread 3.90-4.10 (?)

Hey i was wondering if a few people could chime in and just give me some knowledge on the different gears for the C6 and What kind of performance they will give you such as acceleration and what not? I dont know to much about them for the c6 , and i have a 2005 with just an intake , exhaust and tune and was possibly thinking of doing the gears. Id like some more accleration in the lower gears and rpm but dont want to sacrafice top end so maybe someone could help. Thankyou

Got an A4?
If you do, then a 3.42 100%.

Got an A6?
If you do, then 3.15 100%.

Got an M6?
Then go with 3.73 100%.

With the first two. 3.90 or 4.10 for the Manual. I have 4.10s and love them on my MZ6

This has come up so many times and been debated to death, that I think people are just tired of answering.
4.10's with an m6 is a great combination. It wakes the car up nicely. I see no negative on the high end. 5th and 6th are now more useable.
Who gives a chit about gas mileage, I don't think it affects you much.
To take advantage of the gearing it helps to have a stickier tire than the stock tire. The car is funner to drive.
Hope this helps. I tired now too.

I have 4.10's on my z51 mn6 2006 c6 with a wide body converion with 345 ps2's out back and also have a cam/fast and put down 445 through the 4.10s and still have good traction. The car's torque is felt much more through the gears, the rpms hit red line much quicker and it really puts you back in the seat. I would say I felt the diffrence almost as much as the cam and theres no driveablity problem. If your car is a non z51 I would get the 4.10's if its z51 3.90's don't waste your time with anything less then the 3.90's The 4.10's made my z51 go from 1700 rpms at 70 to about 2100 now, no big deal and maybe a 2 mpg diffrence in fuel. Gears are the way to go if you love romping on it light to light, do that and headers and you'll love the torque!

How much of a top end do you need? I don't have a C6, but I have a LS2 (402 CI) and 4.10s. It is a wicked combination. My top speed is now 174 (at 6800 rpm) in 5th gear. I really don't have a need to go over 174.

3.90s or 4.10s will make a big difference on a stock LS2 (I've had them on a stock LS1). It is one of the best mods you can do and makes the car even more fun to drive.

around 1200 for gears without hardend shafts which is ok unless you drag alot, and about 500 for install. if ordering rear yourself expect a core charge around a grand.

I would recommend you find someone near you that has either 3.90s or 4.10s and take a ride with them before you go with 3.73s.

My 4.10s have made all the difference in the world... It's a totally different car now; 6th gear is completely useable now at 45mph and up whereas before I had to be in 4th or 5th at 45mph.

Don't sell yourself short; feel what 3.90 and 4.10 gears feel like before plunking down your cash...JMHO but I don't think you will be disappointed.
