Do you know what size tool is needed for the PF48?
Go to your auto supply store. Buy a PF48. Take it out of the box, and try cap wrenches until you find one that fits. Reading the filter applications on the cap wrench packaging may speed up the process, and may be substituted for actually buying another filter...However...Verification before you leave the store IS recommended.

The problem was that the store I go to (Pep Boys) did not carry the PF48, as neither did Autozone and Advanced Auto parts.
But I just got a case of the PF48's in the mail and took one to the store and fit it to a cap wrench. 74mm and 15 flukes. The same as the PF46. . . So we're set. Thanks!
Just buy a strap wrench. They work great. I have an entire set of cap wrench's and I only use the strap wrench. I find it easier to get just the right angle on the handle. I know many will disagree with me, it's just my opinion.

Are you sure that one also fits a PF-46?
The wrench I had for the PF-46 did not fit the PF-48. I got a 75/77mm 15 flute for the PF-48.
But I could be wrong.
The Snap-On YA995 cup wrench fits the PF-46 perfectly... like a glove... will NOT slip at all. Snap-On describes the YA995 wrench as 15 flats, 3 inches (76.2 millimeters). I have a YA995 and would highly recommend it for any C6 using the PF-46 (not sure about the PF-48).
Since the filter calls for a tight torque spec, you need a good wrench to get the filter off without scraping your knuckles. An el-cheapo universal cup wrench will likely slip and be a headache. Strap wrenches are excellent as long as you can get them around the filter well. A good cup wrench is easier to get onto the C6 filter and turn, especially if you do not raise the car much and are reaching for the filter with one hand from the side of the car. The YA995 grabs the filter tightly with very little upward pressure, then you simply rachet it off... very quick and easy with one hand, even in the dark.
I own a good strap wrench too, with a pivoting handle, and use it when possible, but find that it's often hard to get onto the filters of the various cars I work on due to space limitations / obstructions, etc.... even with the hinged handle. Cup wrenches, IF they fit well, seem to always be easier... it's often just hard and/or impractical to find the correct perfect fitting cup wrench for every oil filter you encounter. But hey, anything for the Vette!

Or use a filter like the K&N that has a 1" nut on the end

Wasn't there a thread in the last few months about that nut sticking down far enough to catch something and it ripped the filter open?? Think I'll stick with the cup-type.

Yeah, I just tested them back to back, same fit. It was a 74mm 15 fluke cap tool.
I have a strap wrench too, but in order to torque to the correct specifications, I need the cap wrench. The LS engines take an unusually tight oil filter.

I did not remember seeing this - just checked the owners manual again... 18 ft-lbs for the Z06's PF48 filter, but no mention of torque for the LS2's PF46. I just assumed it was the standard hand tight only.
What's the torque setting on the PF46 filter for the C6?
