Hello, I've been checking out the forums here and there and I am currently debating the purchase of a vette, most likely an 05/06 due to price. I currently own a 99 cobra and was debating whether to dump more $$$$ into it or make the switch. Now I do like the look of the vette better (my wife thinks its an old man car ) I have some $$$ I could use as a down payment or use to buy a forged block and supercharger for my current car. Either way I want a high horsepower car to compete with some of the new rides coming out. So I was simply curious about how much a stock LS2 block will hold?
We have a 99 Cobra and two Corvettes. I do a lot of Ford work, and I suggest going with the Corvette. Your IRS won't hold up to much more power than stock, so, to put a supercharger on the 99 will also require you to swap to a GT rear end. (If you were starting with an '03/'04 Cobra, I would be a little more hesitant to suggest the Corvette.)
Don't get me wrong, I love my 10 second Cobra convertible, but you start with a lot more car with a C6 Vette. Suggest you find an '06, however, to get the stronger rear housing.

Tell your wife that vettes have appeal across all age groups. A lot of older guys drive them because they're expensive. I'm 55 but I got my first vette when I was 29.

Well, I do have two different individuals who weekend road race willing to swap me for rearends. I guess I'll need to go out and test drive the vette, I have to admit one thing that turns me off about the mustang is that the interior was not designed around the comfort of the driver. The appeal of keeping the stang is having a car that is somewhat of a sleeper, where as everyone expects the vette to be faster. I'm also looking at building a factory five GTM, but Lord knows with my attention span, it may never near completion. Thanks for the input everyone.
03-04 cobra and the base hellion kit gets you low 10's on a DR all that for 10k is hard to beat.
Nice 03-04 Cobra 22-27k add Hellion kit clutch swap rear etc +10 = 32-37 for one fas car that can truly be daily driven.
I need someone to buy my 2003 Cobra so i can go and get my 08 C6! They are great cars and easy to make fast, but i want something differnt, ive had 6 mustangs already. My other one runs mid 8's! 101mm turbo, 427 ci SBF
We recently built a 2007 A6 Auto Convertible for a customer and the car has a factory shortblock with our CNC Stage 3 heads, Custom Camshaft (small), ProCharger D-1 Kit, Kook's Headers and X-Pipe, and Stock Catback. Due to the upgraded heads, the car makes less boost than it typically would with stock heads and it made 651 RWHP through the auto and has been a best ET of 10.70 @ 13X mph spinning on a drag radial. He drives the car extremely hard and knows that it won't last for ever with stock parts, but is going to drive it until it breaks and build a forged shortblock.
