Default Whistle noise while accelerating?

Anyone else have this... a very high pitch whistle when accelerating? Most noticeable around 2500-3500 rpms, although not really loud. Almost like a turbo spooling up at low volume. After that, the Stingers drowned it out. I have been thinking vacuum leak perhaps, but with all the unique noises from the LS2, maybe it's normal!

mine does it. I have a callaway CAI and I always attributed the sound to that.

I started to hear it after I installed an LPE CAI. I actually went to the trouble of putting the stock one back on and the sound went away. It came back when I put on the LPE again.

Do you have a aftermarket intake? If so it's just "intake whistle"

Yes, good point! I do have a K&N Aircharger. I should have thought about this since I remember the problem from my G35 days too...

Thanks for reminding me!

Some members including myself have something similar but it is the altenator, could that be your noise as well?

It really sounds more like an air whistle than a whine. But I'll keep that in mind and more carefully next time.

Halltech Stinger does it too. I would bet it's your K & N also.

I'll second that. My Halltech Stinger does the same thing. Your description is spot on.

You have to REALLY listen for it in my case. Not loud at all.

Mine has the same whistle with the LPE. Took off the LPE to stock and the noise went away and came back after cleaned and oiled filter and set up went back on.

I'm thinking the stock intake has a nice silencer box to take out the whistle noise. Whereas aftermarket intakes completely removes the silencer box?

007,
It sounds like you have a "positive" problem rather than a negative. I would never have thought of it either! With that many fellas who have the same whistle/noise you should be fine. No gremlins!!! Take care

Default Whistle?

I have someting whining too, & I assumed it to be a belt. I have a C6 w/ a Vararam, but I still would think that's it is a belt. I even went to my dealer & the said the belt's particular material & harmonic balance may be causing it. Stating they've replaced balances on new C6s due to the noise. Problem was sitting in the service bay & reving the motor would not produce the noise, only under hard acceleration on the road. More confounding is it seems to be more pronounced before the car is warmed up. Anyone with similar experience please chime in

Default Whistle on light acceleration

I have also have Callaway CAI and get a whistle on light acceleration.

Any fixes other than removing the CAI?

Okay guys, sorry to bring up an old post but I've been searching for an answer for the CAI whistle problem (after installing my Callaway Honker) and I can't find a suitable solution posted. (The stock box is not a suitable solution to begin with I'm surprised the car could even breath through that thing after seeing the whole thing)

My attempt at the whistle fix (for the Callaway CAI) was to get some HVAC tar ducting tape and jam thin strips of it into the areas where the CAI housing is riveted to the shroud. There were tiny areas where air could have been getting sucked through which caused the whistle... I believed.

Went for a test drive. Whistle still there, even a little worse maybe.

Opened the hood back up, unbolted the "honker" part of the intake (the part that unscrews and detaches from the Mass Air Flow Sensor) and lined a nice strip of the tar tape all the way around where the CAI housing and the "honker" mate up. This should have shut out any remaining areas for air to get sucked through. Securely replaced the honker, and shut the hood feeling about 95% confident I had plugged up any area where air could be whistling through.

Went for another test drive. Whistle still there. Not as bad as first test drive, about the same as before.

Okay, at this point I understand I didn't botch the CAI install, especially since other folks have the same problem after installing a CAI.

Most likely, now that the car is getting much more air flow, the increased flow reacts differently through the intake path: through the CAI, through the Throttle Body, and through the Intake Manifold. That difference = Whistle.

And it makes sense that when another change in flow is created, like when headers are added, the whistle goes away. More change = Whistle goes away

Okay, so I'll explain to the wife that to make the whistle go away I need headers . I'll let you know how that goes.

Thanks for reading -
