Hard wiring a radar detector
I just bought a Bel Pro RX 65 with the smart direct wire cord (the one that has the small remote control). I would like to hard wire it to a switched 12v source and run, mount the remote on the console and run the power wire under the windshield interior molding up to a spot near the mirror. I have a few questions:
1. Where can I easily p/u 12v switched; is there a place on the passenger side?
2. I have the Bose system without nav, how do I remove the console trim surrounding the radio and A/C controls?
3. What hols the interior windshield trim in place; how do I remove it?
4. Any other pointers that I need?
Thanks..........................Oakley

I wired my Valentine 1 detector into my rear view mirror. Positive lead to the Pink wire (lower row) and negative lead to the Black lead (top row)
Invisicord.com They have a cord for the Beltronics detector

1) You can pick up switched power in the fuse panel located in the passenger foot well with an 'add-a-circuit' from the local parts store.
2) I mounted 1 control on the console trim next to the p-break and on two others fished the wire across the bottom of the dash and tucked it into the trim beside the Hud Control on the left of the instrument panel without removing the covers.
3) No need to remove the trim above the windshield or on the a-pillar. just carefully pry back enough to slip the wire behind the cover.
4) You can attach the unit to a bracket affixed to the rear view mirror or to the On-Start unit at the top of the passenger's windshield or to a bracket attached to either visor clip near the top of the windshield.
Good luck!
Anyone done a remote located unit? I live in Virginia where radar detectors are illegal. Not that I want to break the law, but I just did at the tune of 20mph over, so I would rather break it with a device than a speeding ticket!
I've got a V1 hardwired and only use it when I'm outta this stupid state.
I haven't specifically done a remote located unit but I know that with the V1, you could mount it on a stalk behind and between the passenger seats with no loss of effectiveness. Then you can mount the remote wherever.
Thanks for the replies & advice, the not speeding part is a little tough since I have always been a speedfreak. I grew near Haymarket, & we would judge who had the baddest ride by seeing who could catch the most air by measuring the skidmarks (upon re-entry) on Logmill Rd, so it's in my blood & i'm sure you know what I'm talking about if you live in Haymarket. Now we look at e.t.s, Logmill might be harsh on a new vette, but it sure would be fun to watch! It sure was fun being a kid!
