Default Fuel Filter Maintenance

My other vehicle had idling and drivability issues. Culprit was dirty/clogged fuel filter.

Got me thinking. What is the service interval on the C6's fuel filter? When is it replaced, and where is it located? Nothing is mentioned in the owners manual, and I don't have a shop manual. Thanks in advance.

No maintenance needed or required. The only filter is in the fuel tank and that means it would have to be removed to do the job. It's in the left tank near the top of the pickup.

The fuel filter has not been a service item for years in most GM cars and light trucks. That is why it is not found in the maintenance schedule.

Default Lifetime filter

The fuel filter is built into the fuel module in the left side tank. As is the pump and pressure regulator and level sender.

The filter will hold over 100k miles worth of average fuel debris that the filter is sized to catch.

Only way to replace is to replace the entire module, maybe $400 or so for the part plus labor.

Great reason NEVER to let the fuel go bad or put dirty fuel in it.

No. The lifetime filter in the module gets particles down to 5 micron. All the fuel to the engine must pass through this filter.

An inline would do nothing more than cause a pressure drop to the fuel rail.

I think a non serviceable fuel filter is a bad idea. Filters are suppose to get dirty overtime, that is why its called filter. The idea of a lifetime filter really doesnt make any sense.

Default try to find it!

With todays emission regulations to is next to impossible to find a new vehicle with an external filter.

By emissions I mean brand new car just sitting there giving off the new car smell. This is measured nowadays and regulated.

This drove putting everything in the tank with only one tube coming out to the rail. Regulator and filter in tank. Every joint leaks some vapor and they are minimized as much as possible.

an inline filter would be a great thing...from my understanding the reason fuel filters are vanishing is not the wonderful performance of "maintenance free" filters but rather environazis desire to remove fuel filters from the nations solid waste stream...pretty strange stuff, and we are left holding the bag...
