Default Technical Exhaust question, please help!!

Ok, So I'm kinda new at this modding thing. I've been doing a lot of reading on exhaust systems and I know I have the option of getting a full catback system or an axelback system or just mufflers. I love the sound of the Magnaflow 15884 full catback system and that's what I want to hear out of my car. But it's the most expensive and I understand I can get great sound out of just mufflers. So can someone please explain to me what it is you get with the full expensive system vs. just the muflers or axelbask systems? I'd certainly appreciate it.

Your options are the following:

1) change just the mufflers, this is referred to as an axle back.

2) same as above but also change the stock "H" pipe to an "X" pipe, this is referred to as a cat back system (the H & X pipes are the intermediate pipe)

3) same as above but with the addition of headers, these bolt up to the engine, this is a full exhaust system and would be the most expensive.

You could always start by doing just the axle backs (mufflers), lots to choose from, Corsa, Borla, Bassini, etc. If in the future you want to do more and the mufflers aren't the right type at that time, they are easy to sell to someone else.

I have run both configurations on my car, first with the weld-in Magnaflow mufflers, then later with the Magnaflow full catback system. They are very, very different, really the only thing in common is the Magnaflow name. One or the other will be better to you depending on the sound you're looking for, but they're definitely not similar. I don't like drone, so the weld-in Magnaflows didn't work for me. I love the catback.

I think you need a little more research. These are, essentially, the same thing, because you do not need to change the pipes from the cats back to the muffler system. If you have an '08, you even have an X-pipe built in. I have the Borla "muffler" and like them.

I am in a similar situation. I want to change the exhaust, but i cant justify spending $1200 only 2 months after purchasing the car.

So i have decided to go with changing the mufflers only. I have been looking at the 14335 Magnaflow exhaust and the tips to go with it.

Are there some other brands that i should consider? Borla? Corsa? Now keep in mind that i am only changing the mufflers/tips.

If it helps, I really like the Corsa Touring sound.. Not the sport.
Thanks!!

A Corsa rep emailed me yesterday and said that their axle back system is $1,563!!! Why so much more expensive than Magnaflow??
