Got my Honker from the UPS guy and will be doing the install this weekend. I have the instructions that came with the product, but know that I saw a post a while back that added some helpful tips not covered in the Callaway piece. Specifically it talked about drilling into the housing for the filter (and not drilling through it). I can't recall the details and I've searched all the forums. If someone would repost their "helpful hints", it would sure be appreciated. Thanks!!
Instructions in the link are great and mirror my installation experience - did my Vette about 3 weeks ago. Couple of other thoughts-
- An extra set of hands when removing and installing the shroud helps. One person can lay under the front end to bend the shroud around the 2 horizontal tabs while the other person manuevers the shroud.
- I found that the shroud cannot be "gently" (words from Callaway's instructions if I remember correctly). After about an hour of frustration, I found the only way to extract it was to lay under the car, pull the end of the shroud toward the center of the car to get the shroud around the tab/bracket. See my comment above on an extra set of hands. It goes in much easier - LOL.
- I used a jig saw to cut the hole - took less than an minute and made a clean straight cut. Smoothed out the edges with a file.
- To re-inforce what's been said, do not drill thru both sides of the base. Its hollow and the pop rivet expands inside of the frame. Callaway's instructions stink in this regard. I couldn't figure out why the rivets didn't appear to be long enough to go thru both sides of the base, so I called Callaway. Thats how I found out - otherwise I would have made a huge mistake. BTW- Callaway says the rivets are special in the way they collapse and advised against using "standard" rivets (not that you would.)
- Be sure to disconnect your battery. Your air bag sensors are right there where you are working. You don't want an accident. Added benefit - you're clearing your ECM.
- As noted, this is not rocket science but does take time and patience.
Hope this helps in what are already thorough instructions.
Thanks! I had seen the excellent write up but then a few weeks passed and I couldn't find it even with the search. Should make it much easier. It does seem that just a little more information in the instructions would make it easier. Maybe they figure it is obvious, but I have a feeling there are others who didn't ask and made a lot of extra holes before they realized their error.
I installed mine last week.
You will encounter several 'push pins'. Rather than pry them out and reuse them, you might want to clip them at the neck. I bought the identicle push pins at Auto Zone. I'm sure the other auto parts stores have them on their shelves as well.

I thought Callaway's instructions were lacking.
They could've added arrows and other pointers. Instead, they give you pictures of the general location they are referring to.
