I live in a hot climate and my car with a 160 stat runs at 167-169 on the highway at night and 170-174 during the day, I think it's a bit low and would like to be running around 180, I even got a low temperature warning once (actual dic warning "hot engine a/c off") because the coolant temp was too low while cruising on the highway. This happened on a cool night when I just drove the car straight onto the highway.
Having read other posts, I guess not all 160 stats are the same, some run cooler than others. Also, from my experience the only apparent drawback (other than the dic warning) was that fuel economy suffered a bit, haven't measured exactly but it was enough for me to notice.
Is my stat too opening too early? Is too cold bad?
I agree, those temps look too low. I have a 160 stat and the lowest steady state temps I see while cruising is 178.
if its 50 degrees outside temp mine runs less then 160. in the 150s, and it still has heat thats hot enough. i always wait till temp reaches 167 then drive and it will cool to 150s

That just makes the point that they all run at various temps with a 160* stat. I just drove to Billings, Montana Friday outside temp was 57* the car ran between 172* and 176* at 80 to 95 mph.

My results are the same. Seems that there is a wide tolerance in actual operating temps for the "160" stats. I had one that made my car cruise at about 190. Changed it and now I cruise at 180.

Mine is one of the lower ones also. With outside temps in the 70's at freeway speeds mine will run at 165 to 170 ECT.
why didn't the gm engineers just put in a 160 stat?
Any reason why the gm engineers just did not put in a 160 stat? it seems that everyone believes the car runs cooler and faster? The people at GM are not idiots.. just curious as heat kills and wears down engines why wouldn't gm want to put in the 160?

hello, i just want to know do a 160 degree stat really make more power? and if you have any info of improvements please let me know. also is it true that the 2007 c6 does not need a 160 degree stat and that you have to use a 180 degree stat? thanks in advance for the info.
Well, when your at this power level It would be hard to feel anything under 20 Hp. It feels like your Vette is driving and performing like it is slightly cooler outside. I guess you could feel it a little, I'm not sure because I had my headers and tune done with the T.Stat so I felt a difference but I doubt it was the T.Stat
It is a great little mod for the $ though
