I have an '07 with the LS-2 Automatic trans. Have already racked up 4500 miles, and computer shows oil life at 60%. What is the reccomended mileage to change the oil? Or should I wait for the onboard computer to tell me?
You opened a can of worms here. Everyone has there own opinion, but I run mine a bit hard sometimes and change it between 4000 and 5000 just to feel good about things. The must change your oil at 3000 thing is a ploy to take money from you. We have advanced. I figure, its a fairly high priced car, be safe.
I have 19k miles on my 07. First change was called for by the oil life monitor at 10.5k (5 percent remaining) and that is when I too it in for the dealer to change. Just did the second change at 18k miles (10 percent remaining), did that one myslef.
My plan was to follow the oil life monitor. The way things have worked out, I got my first oil change with 3000 miles on the car and 70% oil life remaining, but had 10-1/2 months on it. The second one came one year later with 6600 miles on the car and 65% oil life left.
The car switched from a garage queen to a daily driver and I made a 10,000 mile driving vacation trip. I picked my third oil change based on convenience and changed at 14600 miles or 8000 miles and there was still 40% oil life left. The 4th oil change came at 21,400 miles and again I had to make a stop for tires and just figured what the heck get the oil changed so I don't have to stop for it in a month or two. I had 7000 miles and 38% oil life left. I'll probaly run this one down to 10%-15% left before it gets changed again.
It is based on decades of study of oil breakdown.
That is not an opinion, it is fact. It is from hardcore scientific study.
And GM engineers have so much trust in it they put in in our cars as a tremendous advance and awesome tool.
Less maintainance, more driving. Wow.
