I’m looking for the information on side vent grills? My mechanic tried to install this sticky tape vent it fell off . I’m talking to the vendor for a refund will let you know how that turns out .
Thanks in advance EDMGUY
1) Use less tape and more silicone adhesive. The tape should just be enough to hold it in place while the glue sets. I did RaceMesh and they sent a small tube. I used a large tube for the entire job. I probably used too much tape myself. Be carefull not to get the glue on the visable part of the screen. Use Q-Tips to clean it off when you do. [INSIDE PIC]
2) I used 3 small bungee cords to hold it in place while the glue set, which is about an hour. These cords are attached to the jack handle which is only 12" or so from the vent. They really help to pull the screen against the body while the silicone glue sets. Plus there is a lot less bending of the screen needed with this method since it pulls it into shape from the outside. They saved my butt.
Hope you give it another try. I really like them and they feel solid.
The GM side vent screens are more expensive, but they look great and have a very positive attachment. Can be installed easily (after you install the first one).
I went through three sets of the cheapies and every one fell off. Eventually bought the GM pieces and they can't fall off so the problem was fixed.
I do believe that the cheapies would be fine with a better attachment method such as epoxy. The suggested above may work as well however if you want the ones that can't fall off, drop the $$ on the GM pieces.
Mine came with a 1.4oz tube of Clear RTV Silicone Adhesive & Sealant made by ProSeal. I didn't think it would be enough so I bought a 3oz tube of the same thing made by Permatex. I used almost the entire 3oz tube and never opened what the 1.4oz. The side of the screen toward the outside of the car is much easier because it rests on top of the body (the outside lip of the vent). The part toward the inside only contacts a small part of the body (the edge of the vent where you can't put tape), so there is not much to hold it and forget about the tape unless you bend the screen. I also purchased more tape. But the tape adds little value, it's all about the glue. I taped all around the screens which I would not do again. I know the screen won't stick well to the tape without the glue, I just hope the tape stays on the body.
The first side I tried to bend the screen to wrap around the body making a 90 degree bend of the screen. That was not easy, it's a thick screen and when it bends one end piece fell out and had to be put back in. The second side (shown above) I did not bend it at all and held it in place with the bungee cords. Then put a small amount of glue on my finger tip and reached in and pushed the glue on the body and up against the screen (from behind on the inside). If you have never used RTV Silicone, don't worry it's not like normal glue. It's thick and stays where you put it making it easy to work with and you have time to go all the way around the screen using this method.
When I bought my car, the dealer had added vent grills to many cars on the lot. I liked them alot, but one thing bothered me. There were some square little brackets or something showing that were up toward the surface that were not a part of the screen. I suppose they could be painted black, but they were chrome like the screen. Are those the GM screens?
A key to the process is to clean the area before you try to stick on the screens. I use paint thinner, then lightly sand the area and then a second wipe down with cleaner. The "bungy" cord idea, above, is a good one!

I spent the extra change and am happy with the GM product.
May I ask please, Are the side vents functional in any way?
Does hot air from either the engine or brakes vent out through them, or are they just there for looks....
I wouldn't want to add vent screens if there was much chance that debris from the wheel wells could clog them from the inside, or just make it harder to keep that area clean.

Love the look and the durabilty of the GM ones on my car, but to each there own.
