What's the deal. It's expensive; they can't get to the fuel filter as it's inside the tank. Isn't running on a top tier gas and putting a bottle of Techron from Chevron in the tank once in a while just as good as what the dealer does? And just what does the dealer do for the 150-200 dollars they charge anyway? I've heard they put a bottle of fuel system cleaner in your tank; that's about it! Can you say "sucker"? I knew you could...
Don't know about your dealer but I've seen shops use a deal that looks like a canister that hooks to the fuel rail. The cars's pump is disabled and the engine runs off of the canister. This is a high detergent mix than cleans the injectors. Runs for a few minutes then dies. Put another can of stuff in the tank and you're done. A couple of years ago this was about $75 for "normal" cars.
If you don't use rot gut gas you won't have to worry about it. I used one tank of rot gut in my C5 and had to get the injectors cleaned & fouled plugs replaced. All in a station that had been Mobil and didn't change all their signs when they filled up with weasel bombay pee, , the fun began.
I never had any cars fuel system cleaned and never had an issue. Use quality gas and maybe some treatment now and then but to pay for a dealer or whomever to clean it is crazy unless you are have some big issues.

if it's bg based, just be careful. it's not only dollars, but.... techron works and has been used for years and is backed by one of the largest refiners in the country.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but independent gas stations buy gas from the same name brand distributors that supply gas to the name brand gas stations. It's called the "spot" market. The independents can sell gas cheaper because they can buy gas from any of the name brand distributors, while the franchise stations (or distributor owned) can only buy their own brand. A friend managed a name brand station (Exxon) and was pissed that the independent across the street was SELLING the same gas as his own station for less than what he was paying for it. The delivery truck would leave his station and then go across the street to fill up their tanks. When you buy from the independent, from week to week you don't know if your getting Exxon, Shell, Chevron, etc.
We use a three part BG fuel sevice kit One can is for injector cleaning its runs in the fuel rail fuel pump disabled, after that one is sprayed through the throtle body helps for decarbon the other goes into the tank as an additive. It works well ive used it for a long time seen it clear
up misfires from dirty injectors and clean out carbon on high mile vehicals

That may be so. But this turkey must have had a dead cat in his tank. Cost me money that I didn't need to spend. That's why I try to stay with 'known" brands.

Yep, you're right Mike. Thats why Chevron, the real Mobil, and Shell are some of the best................because they DO have different refinement specs and include additives that make the difference. Learned the same lesson on my 85.
