Won't Start/DB Problem on 2005 Models
I prefer the colors of the 2005 but worry about the posts--still happening about no-start problems-4th time problems in 2007.
Has the cure been found?
Looking to buy a Magnetic red Coupe with an Automatic transmission.
Many Thanks

There is at least one known problem and corresponding fix, that involves re-flashing the BCM. I don't know if this accounts for all the cases of DBS or not.
There is one associated well-known issue; '05s with manual transmissions must be parked in reverse. Failing to do so will drain the battery in a day or so.
I'm inclined to think that any dead batteries happening on '05s now are likely to be exactly that. An OEM battery dying after 3 years of service isn't that surprising.
BTW, I've never had any issues with my '05.
Thanks again. I see low mileage '05's for good prices.
Hoping the winter will bring the best price for me.

I believe there are three problems on the C6:
1. Malfunctioning shutdown software which allows continued battery drain occasionally.
2. Weak /defective charging system - my dealer tells me they have replaced a number of alternators because the integrated voltage regulators are faulty. Also, the OEM cables are of poor quality with Al fittings - not the best way to transfer 100 amps to a starter.
3. Engine heat cooking the batteries - the #1 cause of battery death along with full discharge being #2. The C5's battery was protected in a separate compartment, the C6 deleted that for whatever reason.
My BMWs have trunk batteries. Both cars have had the same batteries for 6 + years.
Will be changing out my battery shortly as a precaution since it's on the verge of 3 years old.
Just got back from the dealer and they replaced the battery - they also performed a reprogramming under Bulletin 07-06-03-001B. The job sheet says 'Battery Draw - Reprogram per Bulletin'
Does anyone know the number of the GM bulletin referring to the reflashing of the ECM being talked about on this thread?
Thanks
First, the original term DBS was coined here and ONLY referred to unexplained battery drains in PROPERLY shut down 2005 MN6 vehicles. The drain would always occur within 48 hours of the car being shut down. It did not refer to the automatics at all.
As more cars were produced, it became apparent that there were other issues which could just as effectively drain a good battery. These were not as widespread, nor as identifiable as the traditional MN6 DBS, but they were just as dificult to deal with. Some of these other issues involved garage door openers, fob storage, and even OnStar service. This was all further complicated by the fact that some of the OEM Delco batteries had come through with bad cells, so bad batteries were also thrown into the mix. Eventually, everyone who had any battery issue called it DBS, which made things even more confusing.
Eventually, GM recognized that there was a real problem and formed a small engineering group to diagnose and fix it. This took some time, but eventually resulted in the issuance of a BCM reflash which addressed all the software related issues relevent to the 2005 and 2006model years. I have not heard of a single case of classic DBS on any car which had the reflash done. My own car went dead three times after the reflash, (I had two DBS incidents prior to the reflash), but that was cured with a new battery and I've had no issues since then.
So, a 2005 or 2006 which has had the reflash done should be completely free of any battery drain issues. Other problems involving dead batteries may occur with any car, but they are not widespread or unique to the C6.
Hope this helps.
