I am looking at the '08's and the only option that I really want over the base model is the HUD. Can it be added later? If so, how hard is it to install and what is the cost of doing it this way?
Thanks.
A few guys have done it. Right now it's fairly expensive ($1000) but that's still a lot cheaper than the 3LT that comes with a bunch of stuff I didn't want. The people that have done it say the hardest is getting the dash apart, it takes a little time, but it's doable. I may do it once the HUD is available in the aftermarket for a few hundred.
Just the HUD would take maybe 3-4 hours. being careful. If you can turn a screwdriver, you can install it.
Mine was $805 from that same vendor mentioned above.
I have an 07 2LT vert. I did not want a power top, and to get HUD, I would have to get 3LT, AND a power top. I live in CA.. don't care about heated seats, etc.. Added NAV (better than stock) at the same time.
HUD alone is pretty easy.
I know people analyze how, why, cost etc... Paralysis by analysis. Bottom line: I've done it and it is pretty straightforward. You can also order the harness alone from that same vendor, then order the projector, trim plate and control module for the dash from GM (Try Gene Culley at GM Parts house) It could be cheaper that way as well. IMHO, $805 was a decent price. And again to the naysayers.. the stock windshield works very well...
I tried finding a vendor on e-bay with no luck and can't find Dennis Denizon anywhere. Anybody have a link to buy a HUD unit? And/or instructions that can be sent to me? Thanks in advance.
Does your hud have the g meter? Also if you were going to install the factory navi, would it work like a factory installed unit?
Yes, the HUD has the gmeter and it works great. I dont think anyone has had any luck yet installing a factory nav unit, un less its a 3lt car,,,but then you'd already have the HUD anyways.

That I know of, yes, Dennis is the only one selling the kit. He is the one who created the custom harness that allows the HUD to work in non-HUD cars. Sending you a pm with the info.

jogar80 - can you send me the info too. i want to install a HUD in my 07. i have one lined up but we are not sure if it will plug in.
jogar's guy never got back to me, but another member can also make them. Might want to check with GMautotech. Unfortunately for me, the forum member that I paid $300 for a hud unit to 2 weeks ago isn't responding to emails or pms and I think took my money. Pretty weak for a senior member.
