I keep hearing about these vettes getting 25-31 mpg when does this happen. I have a littel under 600 miles on my 08 6 speed. I've driven on the highway and in town and the best that I have gotten was 15.8. Around town I get anywhere from 13.5-14.7mpg. I haven't lit the tires up yet and I really haven't rodded it due to trying to break it in the right way. So does it take the motor awhile to loosen up and bring the better numbers or are mine about right. MPG is not the reason I bought the car, however I see the higher numbers regularly and just wondered if it takes awhile before the better MPG's start showing up.
That 27-30 range is achieved when you are talking about highway only. That means resetting the average readout once you're on the road. If you are not getting anywhere near that, you have a problem you need to get checked out.
In my 08 with 1500 miles, I get ~16-17 mpg city and 26-28 mpg highway @ 70-75 MPH. I've noticed from the instanteous MPG readout that the dead stops hurt the most, so I try to get to my speed somewhat quickly then cruise at a constant speed as much as I can to average out a good city MPG rating.
We have an '06 coupe with the 6 speed auto. When we go on a trip of usually a couple hundred miles we will fill up off the interstate and figure the mileage the old fashioned way, not on the cars computer but getting off an exit and filling up and taking a calculator and always get at leat 30 mpg. Have had up to 32. Now thats driving @ 5 mph over the speed limit, usually around 70 to 75 mph & TRYING to get good mileage. Not jumping into the throttle to go around folks. Now when you get your foot in it ,-- mileage drops off pretty good-6 to 9 mpg depending on how & how many time you goose it. Now this car is my wifes daily driver for going back & forth to work & gettin groceries, & she tells me around town per the cars computer she is averaging aprox 24 mpg, & she drives pretty normal for a girl ,only ocasionally(maybe a few times a week) showing off a bit. So it all depends on how you drive it. If you want to enjoy the performance frequently you are gonna have to pay for it(with gas). BUT this car has the potential to get what you want when you want it,either mileage or performance- just not both at the same time. Dont be unrealistic & think you can dog it & still get great mileage.
I just drove from Nashville, TN to Indianapolis, IN today. Almost 400 miles, mostly at 80mph with the AC on, 75-80 degrees F. I averaged 31.6 mpg. Bone stock 2000 coupe MN6.
From: Austin, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Houston, Dallas, Hong Kong, Elgin, etc.. Texas

Here is mine (about the same as most others): 2008, 6spd, convertible w/ 2000 mi. I get consistent 25+ on the highway (mostly fast highway when I can get away with it), and 18+ around town. This is one of the best MPG vehicles I have ever owned; my other vehicles, which are SUPPOSED to get great gas mileage, don’t even come close. At best, my Ford diesel pick-up only gets 18 mpg on the highway, at best, and my 5 cylinder, 07 Chevy Colorado pick-up only gets 21- 22 highway with 15 -16 around town. Now to be fair the Vette weighs less and has much better aerodynamics than either of the trucks, but I also drive it much harder which is always worse for mileage. So far I have no complaints with this car!
On the freeway at 80mph cruise control I will get right at 28mpg (went on a 150 mile trip this last weekend both ways and averaged 27.8 on the freeway)
If I stay in town and do NO freeway driving I will get about 18-19mpg.
Right now on a mix of city and freeway (mostly freeway) I'm at 25.0 mpg.
I never saw 30mpg until I got a tune. Stock, the best I saw was 27-28. Around town, anywhere from 12 to 18, depending on my behavior. The way the car is driven has a huge affect on fuel efficiency. At the track, I only get 7-8.
Well I am going to print all of your responses and take them to my local chevy dealer so they can't tell me my low mileage is average. I don't rod the car and when traveling I usually run about 75 miles per hour. There is a big enough diffference that it might need to be tuned a little at the dealership. Thanks for the input, it may help my case. Of course I am nervous about a local dealership tune but what are my choices??????

I just wanted to let you know it really depends on the traffic and your foot. I used to have a C5 & living in LA city driving only I got about 17-18mpg. I then got a C6 with Z51 and it dropped down to 13 and 15 at best. I think I am just having more fun and I am in really crappy traffic. Now I have the C6Z and I get 12.5 city only but I know it is me and the traffic. When I go on a trip I get 29mpg doing 85mph.
My M6 '99 C5 I easily could get 29-31 on an extended long highway trip. With my 06 A6 my mileage isn't nearly as good since I average about 27/28 on a long trip ( also around 70-80 mph) and only 20/21 after a day at Englishtown. However, why don't the "powers that be plus AL Gore & his greenie Demo pukes" push to get street lights sycronized. That would save millions of gallons of gas. I waste more gas at useless lights every day than racing at E. Town.
