I know I probably should have posted this in the scan/tune section, however I almost never get not even a single, response. Maybe someone over here will be able to help me out.

I licensed my car on a friends HPTuners copy on his laptop. I am now looking for a way of accessing my car through another laptop, without having to pay for the HPT credits all over again. Please tell me its possible, and how

I'm interested here, too.

I had the same problem with HPT. We tried to tune my buddy's car, which we had already licensed, on a different computer, but it wanted us to burn more credits and license the vehicle again. We were going to contact them and ask them what was up, but haven't got around to it yet.

You can scan any car for free, no credits required. You need credits if you want to upload a new tune. There is a way to use another computer as long as you have the original HPTuners box. Send an email to HPTuners, they will give you the details.

I believe you need your friends HP box (it contains your license) connected to the 2nd computer. Then on the 2nd computer with software and box installed you open the License Info screen (Help - License Info). There is an "HP" icon at the top left corner of that window that says "Get License Info" when you wave the mouse over it. Click that "HP" icon with the box connected and it should pull your license from the box to the PC. You can then edit the tune on the 2nd PC, but you may always need that box to flash your car with the update. I'm not sure if that license would transfer to another box in a similar manner.

You are out of luck. The cable is licenced to tune that car. Period. You can not edit or rewrite your pcm unless you use your friends cable. You are more than welcome to use your own laptop, however his credits are updated in the new licence they sent him when you purchased credits for your vehicle.

The OP is not clear if he's using his friend's Tuners cord but I bet he is - if you want to use one tuners cord for two (or more) computers that's fine - but all computers need to be running the same version of HP Tuners software and HP just came out with an update a couple of weeks ago. I suspect if you update all computers to the latest software from the HP Tuners website you will be fine.

Doug, Robert and I ran into this issue on the last update.

Also, HP Tuners has blazing fast e-mail support in my experience and an excellent forum if this doesn't answer the question.

Joe G is right. I use my HPTuners interface (box) on three different computers. The interface owner just has to install his update on each computer he uses, then the interface will work when connected to each one. The licenses go with the interface, not the computer.

If the OP is trying to access the tune file using a second interface and computer, he will have to buy a second license for the second interface.

Yep, you are SOL unfortunately, unless you are re-using the cable on the second computer.

Cable and software have to match. When I was working at two shops that each had their own software package, I had to keep uninstalling/reinstalling the software so that I was running the proper version with the associated cable. Scanning a different story. You can scan just about everything, including new Ford Mustangs, and even old LT1's.
