Ok, placing an order tomorrow on a CAI, in reviewing other forums members comments it appears that the Vararam it the CAI of choice. And I know this has been beat to death but should I go with the VR or the Vortex Rammer CAI from Breathless performance?
Well, I've seen some here that were able to get the vararam with a pre-cut shroud, so you still don't have to cut any thing, and it can go back to stock just as easily.

I know that flow is important, but so is filtering capability. Are the new Vararams better than what was available a couple years ago for C5s?
Everyone was crowing about the C5 VR, so I bought one. The thing was so poorly constructed, I thought it was a mistake. Sent it back and got another - same issue. The vendor took it back and I bought another CAI for the car. The VR filter was ****, the airbox would not seal and the materials it was made from were very brittle.
Is the new one better? Anyone have pics? Has anyone done a before/after oil analysis to see if more contaminants were being ingested with an aftermarket CAI, like the VR, vs stock?

Although some CAI systems had fitment problems most who used them were able to work it out and enjoy the increased perfprmance.
I read on a thread somewhere that those who are using CAI systems
should change OIL more often because of an increased amount of silicates found in the oil analysis. Probably good preventative maintenance measure but no hard stats on this.
I'm skeptical about the VR...the ONLY one I've ever seen at the track was in another A6 auto and my stock auto beat him everytime and trapped 1mph higher.
Granted...could've been something wrong with the car, but I talked to the guy and he was very unsatisfied with the VR improvents on his car.
