I did a search on my issue only found minimal information. So here ya go.
When I go to pass and stick my foot in it, the A6 trans will slip, red line, and free rev until I let off the gas then will slide into gear, I believe it is 3rd to 4th. It does about 50% of the time. This is dangerous and not right.
Last night I was getting on the freeway and jumped on it. The car took off normally, but again it free reved and would not shift most likely 3rd to 4th. I saw the tach go past 7500 RPM and hang there. This was the worst time for this issue, as I did not think the tranny would engage but finally did after 5 to 10 seconds. The car was at normal operating temps, same as all the other free revs. It does it in D mode and S mode. The A6 operates normal as long I don't give it more then 75% throttle. No fun!
I need some input from others that may have experienced this issue. I want to be well informed before it goes to the service shop.
Help Please! Thanks in advance.
You need to take it in, as there is a problem. I'm not sure how the tach can go to 7500, as the rev limiter should keep it from going that high. If the transmission isn't shifting at full throttle, there is a problem and it needs to see the dealer.
Yea that's what I thought, rev limiter would protect it. Last Night I was more aware that the car may exibit the problem so I paid close attention to gauges, and I was shocked at what I saw. If I would not have lifted I don't know what the result would of been, it was ugly. Do you think it regestered a code?
Not sure. It seems you are having two different issues. One being the transmission not functioning properly. Two, the rev limiter isn't functioning properly as well. I may be wrong, and someone correct me if I am, but these two things are crontrolled by different computers. The rev limiter is controlled by the ECM, and the transmission is controlled by the TCM. Two different "brains". Take it in as soon as you can.
