removing C6 battery - a little help....
I went on a long trip and my battery appears to be dead (2007 C6). i couldn't jump start it with my blazer. I would like to take the battery to the local auto store to see if there is any hope for it (if not, to buy a new one).
my question is the removal of the battery: removing the positive cable was easy, however, the negative cable is sort of encased from the bottom in a black plastic cover. does the casing come off with the cable or stay on the battery?
also, the battery seems pretty rigid like it is bolted down somewhere, is there another nut somewhere besides the two cables.
hopefully this isn't too comical for the real experts on this site. I would just like to get my vette back on the road without breaking anything, etc...
thanks in advance,
Bill
You should have one bolt that holds the battery down. The cables are sometimes very short and connected to the tray. Copper is about $3 a pound so they use as little as possible. Take both cables off and the battery should lift out once you remove the single hold down bolt. There is a lip on the back of the tray that may cause you to move the battery toward the front of the car to release it.
Also, unless the battery is shorted out inside, it should take a "jump". You may have other issues. Alway remove the negative cable first and install it last.
FYI, I work for a battery company...
