Default Disable run flat system on 08 Vette

Does anyone know how to disable the run Flat system with out causing and other problems?
I don’t think it works off of the computer, so it can’t be turned off there.

I think we need an explanation of "run flat system"..... Do you mean the tire pressure sensors?

runflat system???? Its not a system, its the type of tires on the car. They are called "run-flats" because they can run on zero pressure.

Isn't it govt mandated by 2010 to have the pressure monitored and there is no way to turn it off?

I was able to have the TPM system turned on for my 04 Z06. You would need the tech tool used by GM dealerships to have it changed. I don't know if there is an option to turn it off.. You might want to call the dealership and ask.

Thanks! I was thinking of maybe making some type of pressure tank or something like that to trick the system into thinking the pressure is fine.
I want to run non-run flat tires
I'll give my dealer a call also, to see if it can be turned off.
So far everyone I've ask has no idea!

Thanks for the info guys!

Why not just mount the sensors in your non-runflat tires... ??

I want to switch back and forth between DR's and Street tires and not have to reset the signal every time.

Put a magnetically triggered set of sensors in each set, it takes 20 seconds to program them when you switch. All you need is a large magnet. Its so simple and you have the peace of mind of knowing your tire pressure.

I purchased my set off of bez06 a forum member. This type sensor were on early 05 models. I have an 06 and it worked fine. I'm sure if you contact him he can point you in the right direction or maybe source some for you.

Are you changing wheels also??? If your just mounting the non run flats on the stock rims it shouldn't be an issue.

There is absolutely no possible way to turn off the Tire Pressure Monitor System. On the C5 Z06 it was possible with a Tech 2, but not on the C6.

The DOT, NHTSA, and Congress got together and wrote a bill which is now Federal Law. Starting in September this year with the 2008 model year ALL 4-wheeled vehicles UNDER 10,000 lbs. gross weight MUST have sensors and a TPMS. Part of the law is that it cannot be turned off/disabled/inactivated. They want it to be something that will bug the hell out of you if you continue to drive around on tires with low pressure.

The magnetically triggered sensors that mcandrew67 mentions are not readily available. I think there were only a very limited number made for a few of the very early 2005 C6's.

If what you want to do is run DR's with no sensors I don't think you'll have problems. You may not be able to disable AH or go into Comp mode, which are things you don't want to do anyway on the drag strip. You should be able to clear any messages you get and turn off TC without any problems.

Seems to me there is a very old thread on this subject where someone built a compact pressure chamber out of PVC pieces and stuff the sensors in there and just carried them around in their rear compartment. Been an easy year since I saw this and maybe longer but its here somewhere.

I, along with many others, have non-run flat tires. There's no need to disable the system. It's just a pressure sensor. It's nice to be able to check tire pressures using the DIC.

I think he wants to get a whole new set of rims, one for his DR's and the other the stock wheels, but doesn't want to spring for the sensors for the new wheels. At least that's how I understand it.

Are you sure of that. I was told I needed to take it to the dealer or buy a tool for $350.

I want to be able to switch out rims and tires when I go to the track, without having to reprogram every time! I like the pressure chamber Idea.
I have no problem buying a second set of sensors. I just hate reprograming the system with every tire change.

Thanks guys you've been very helpful!

Yes I'm sure i did it on my car. If you buy the electronic ones you need the RF tool, if you buy the magnetically triggered ones you only need a large magnet. Turn the car in ACC mode, hold the two buttons down on the remote, the horn will sound, hold the magnet over FL, horn will sound after each sensor is picked up, then FR, RR, RL thats it. Programmed.
