Default DTE H/C Package on a 2006 C6

After reading the pros and cons of the L92/L76/cam package from various sources both on this forum and others I decided to give the Dyno Tech Engineering's package a try.

I had previously installed Kooks 1.75, Kooks cats, Kooks X pipe, Maganflow exhaust, a Vararam, and the Predator header tune. Please note the 375 RWHP baseline was with the stock tune dumped back in.

375/375 Base
469/437 Final. Plus whatever power is derived from the Vararam.

Still having a car that I restored and modified 16 years ago and now finding it "uncomfortable" to drive, I impressed upon Phil that I didn't want something that would shake my fillings out. I was not looking for numbers, I was looking for a little more performance than stock without the inherent drawbacks of a street driven race car. I'm too old for that s__t.

What I got was a package that is definably civilized. Sitting in the car you can "hear" the cam but you don't feel it. Standing outside I opened the driver's door (something I learned many years ago street racing) since any lope slows up instantly via a wildly shaking door. VERY minor shake, but it was there. I'd say it seemed like what we used to call a 3/4 race cam. First gear at 850 and no surge, same in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th at 1000 RPM. Mild, just as I asked for. I was happy.

Phil told me the car runs best with the T/C and A/H. OK. This was my car, a car I felt comfortable with, not someone else's car that I had to learn prior to pounding it so I took his word at it. I kick the T/C and A/H off and floored it at 1500 It went GOOD! At about 2800 all H__l broke loose, the tires smoked and the tach redlined at 6800, hit 2nd gear and the tires broke loose again, then I hit 3rd with the same results. This was not my car, at least it wasn't the car I had 2 weeks prior. I've driven faster cars but not on the street (with the exception of a B Gas dragster but that was at 2 AM and I was a kid). This car is brutal considering you honestly can't tell what it has.

Bottom line - put this engine in a 66 Nova and I could have bought a house when I was 18. What a sleeper package.

Phil and his wife Jenny are good people, their shop is clean, neat, orderly, state of the art and they're both knowledgeable and personable, And Phil is GOOD at his chosen profession!

Try it, you'll be flat amazed.

Congrats Don. You edged me by 9/5. I could not be happier with my DTE H/C package. You know, I've never turned off both AH and TC - I may have to give that a try today. Enjoy the "new" car.

Thanks again for the business Don and it was nice meeting your other half in that "FORD" she drives. J/K- She looks good in it!

Thanks for the referral too Eric, I owe you lunch sometime.

I have a sound clip of the exhaust note that I'll post up, if I can figure out how... Any pointers anyone?

Best Regards,
Phil

How does this cam compare to, say, a G5X1 or G5X3 cam (OEM 243 heads)?

Our cam grind for this package has consistantly produced excellent power and exceptional, broad torque output for its size over many different vehicle platforms- which is WAYYYYYY smaller than either of the two camshafts you inquired about. (under 223* @ .050") Addtionally, the package details (head selection) are provided by Don in the first post.

Believe me , I know what you mean about this package being a sleeper . My rear tires will break loose in 1st , 2nd , and 3rd if I don't keep the TC / AH on . I didn't make the numbers that you did but I have an A6 and 3.15 differential . 437 RWHP/ 411 RWTQ is plenty for me ! Most people don't even challange me anymore , after they hear the exhaust lope . That thing screams at about 4000 rpm when the cam starts to hit it's sweet spot . Enjoy your new found power .

To all that recommended DTE - I thank you. As stated, I didn't want another car I really liked that now just sits under a cover because it's no fun to drive any distance more than 10 miles.

Would you recommend this package first or the 4:10's? If you had the funds for only one mod at a time, which gives the best bang for the buck? What would it cost for both of them installed on a '05 6-speed at the same time compared to different times? PM me with details, I'm ready to have this done. Thanks in advance!

Be nice to compare this cam in an LS3 with kooks headers against these results.

Good job

I agree and thank you. We're putting something together for that engine platform now and when we're complete, I'll post the results.
