Default 08 Tire Pressure Sensor Question

Can the 08 coupe run without tire pressure sensors installed in the wheels? I understand in some previous model years it would throw a code then put the car into a reduced power mode. Has there been any changes to this in the 2008 models if not is there any work around such as hitting the reset button when starting the car?

Thanks!

I don't know whether the '08s are different, but here's your workaround answer...(response #13 in the thread attached)...

All years and models of the C6 to date use the same TPMS and sensors (well.....cars built for European delivery have sensors that transmit on a different frequency and a TPMS that will receive their transmissions).

If the TPMS doesn't detect sensors you will probably be able to clear the messages and pretty much drive normally - you may not be able to go into Comp mode or disable AH, which might be a problem auto-xing or road racing.

No sensors detected will not "throw a code" - the TPMS works through the RCDLR and BCM, not the PCM. There's no way to disable/deactivate the TPMS in the C6 - or any new vehicle. All 2008 and beyond 4-wheeled vehicles less than 10,000 lbs. are now required to have sensors and a TPMS. Part of the Federal Law is that it will NOT be able to be deactivated.

If you're running runflats, you really should have sensors. None of the manufacturers honor their road hazard warranty unless you have sensors in their runflat/p-zero/zp/emt/etc. tires.

Probably not.

Butt....you don't want to do that at the drag strip anyway.

You'll be able to turn off Traction Control, but our resident forum drag expert Ranger says to leave full Active Handling on.
