Default Shifting Difficulties '08

Tremac transmission 6060.

It should shift smooth and effortless, but most often, it seems to grind going from 2nd to 3rd. However, I have no problems down shifting.

My dealer said they would not look at this until I put 1,000 miles on the car.

Has anyone else experienced these issues? Any input would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Only when cold. (Below 50 outside) Otherwise, okay!

Stock oil in a new 08' convertible is Mobil One. Does Royal Purple Oil provide better protection and do you need to use another type of oil filter when changing out the oil for the first time.

The car has 1050 miles on it. I do have free Mobil One Oil changes each 3000 miles, but for better performance i would consider using the Royal Purple. What viscosity shoud be used in hot sunny Florida?

Thanks

Mine shifts like butter. Shouldn't grind going into any gear. Take it back to the dealer.

Not sure what your definition of "grind" is, but, if its the standard one, your dealer is wrong. It should never grind between gear engagements and IMHO this has nothing to do with break in. I'm sure the tranny experts will chime in.

Ummm, I think this thread is about the man trans. To ans. your questions, if you have free M1 oil changes every 3K miles, do it! No special oil filter except that which is recommended for your car. 5W-30 is recommended re viscosity.

As to the trans, those that are not stiff in colder weather, less than say, 1500 miles on the odo, or first thing in the morning even in warm/hot weather are, imo, unusual. I've had many man. trans. that were consistently stiff unless it was 80 degrees or warmer, first thing in the morning.

As said, all you have to do is baby it a little, shift slowly from 1-2, 2-3 until the fluids warm up. The general notchiness and slightly difficult shifting really relaxed maybe 40% or more in mine at about 1500 miles. By 2K miles, it almost felt like a different trans.

Others have recommended different trans fluid. Maybe, but I'll stick with what's there now.

Tremec trannies all have a personality. They need to have the tranny fluid above 100 degrees for smooth operation. That's not much bother. You might want to set the DIC-gauge display to "oil temp," which is a good surrogate for tranny temp. Believe you will see the shifter smooth out at that temp.

Also you need to be careful with your hand position on the shifter. After fluid temp is taken into consideration, most shifting issues revolve around improper hand-position on the shifter. How to Improve Your Shifting
