I picked up my new 2008 coupe. On the drive home the shifter had a very noticable vibration (felt but not heard, no chatter) Is this normal for a new 08? By comparison my scion xB has no vibration. I drove it very easy.
This is typical of the shifter. If you choose to upgrade to a B&M or Hurst, you'll even get a bit more. When I took mine apart, there is a plastic cup, per se, at the bottom of the shifter that moves back and forth within the trans housing. I filled this with some wheel bearing grease, but never really got rid of some vibs and chatter.
You'll get used to it... we all did.
As my dad would say, this is not your father's Buick. Or in your case, a SCION.
There is actually a service bulletin on this I believe.. or its coming.. This is a new problem from the common zo6 rattle..
The pivot ball doesn't fit perfect in the shifter housing on all the shifters.. there was a guy in the quality department checking one out the other day..
I know that they aren't all like that.. I'd ask your dealer to check it out, if there isn't a bulletin yet, they may swap shifters out for you anyway..

Your xB has a cable linkage and doesn't transmit much if any vibes thru the shifter.. My 08 has minimal vibes thru the shifter... You're now in communication with the car and the road.. it's all part of the experience and it's all good!
