Default TPS for 08 same as 05??

I have a set of 05 wheels with TPS and I am putting on new wheels and tires on my 08 (not the 05 wheels and tires) in the am. Does anyone know if the TPS are the same so I can use the ones out of the 05?? Thanks Paul

Yep - same.

When was your '05 built? Very early 05 C6's had sensors that you trigger with a magnet (like a C5) - I think there were only a very few cars with those sensors.

My '05 coupe was built in Aug 04 and came with the magnetic sensors. If you can watch the tire guys do the tire mounting you'll be able to see the sensors. The magnetic ones are square in shape and have a GM Part# 10354988 molded into the sensor. I've had several sets of these old sensors, and most could be triggered by either a magnet or a radio transmission tool. If you have those sensors they will work with your 08, the only reason I mention it is a couple of mine could only be reset with a magnet (the tool wouldn't excite them).

Except for those very early 05's, 99.9% of C6's will have the "peanut shaped" dark gray sensor with GM Part# 25758220. That's the sensor used on all 2005 to 2008 C6's and all models (coupe, vert, Z06).

Again, I doubt you have those real early magnetic sensors, but I just mention it in case you do - it would be nice to know.

The only real issue that I can think of by using the 05 sensors is that the batteries in the sensors have a design life of 10 years (and I've also read 7 years). So...the 05 sensors already have as much as 3 years of life gone already.

Are you going to mount these in stock wheels?

If not, are you going to have to band/strap them inside the wheel, or mount them inside with a bracket? If so, you will have trouble triggering the sensors if they are the magnetic ones - you will have to do the relearn procedure before mounting the sensors inside the tires in order to register the sensors with the TPMS computer.

Good luck, and let us know how it turns out.

Bob

Oh!!! Okay, you're just going to put the 05 wheels/tires/sensors on the 08. That won't be any problem at all.

I thought you were going to mount sensors from an 05 into a new set of wheels.

So, if you don't dismount the tires off the 05 wheels you won't get a look at the sensors.

Here's a link to a video that shows what the 2 different types of sensors look like. Again, it's unlikely that the 05 wheels have those square magnetically triggered sensors, but if they do you may need to use a magnet as in the video.

What type of tool do you have to trigger the sensors?

Sorry. OK, I want to put the TPS out of the 05 wheels into new aftermarket wheels I purchased for my 08 as long as they will work and by the first post they are probably the same. Hey, I'm old and get to screw up sometimes.
