Default Clutch recomendations for C6

Guys i need some suggestions for a new clutch on my 06. I currently only have bolt-ons and possibly maybe get a super-charger in the future. I'm looking for something with a stock feel and that will definetly last a long time.

I can't recommend a clutch, but I definitely recommend installing a remote bleeder when you have the clutch out. It's very hard to do with the torque tube bolted up to the engine.

Once you have a remote bleeder, you can do proper flushes of the clutch fluid in a few minutes.

Sorry if i sound like a rookie, but how often are you supposed to flush the clutch oil? So far i have 40,000 miles and i have never done it.

Currently I'm running an LS7 clutch in my 05 C6. It has a forged 427 making 525rwhp/500rwtq, and it works great. I will say it's a street daily driver, and will never see a drag strip. It's traction limited so the tires never will hook up hard in 1st or 2nd gear. So nothing is in danger of breaking. If I was inclined to drag the car I would upgrade the clutch, drive shaft, half shafts, and rear end. Otherwise it's going to end up on the track instead of on your car. I've use aftermarket clutches, LUK gold series, McCloud, and Texterala z-grip and hated all of them. Never found one that I liked. I have come to the conclusion that you can't have it both ways when it comes to clutches. Either it's a street clutch or a race clutch.

Any idea how much the ls7 clutch costs? I barely ever go to the track , maybe just once or twice a year. But when ever i leave a red light i take off just as if i were at a track anyway lol. How much mileage do you think i could get out of the ls7 clutch? I hear that the clutch on our regular c6 isn't that good.

Go out and look in your clutch reservoir. Does it look like black oatmeal? If you drive the car hard, it probably does. You should change it.

The problem with the C6 is that the clutch slave, which holds a very small fluid volume, is located inside the bellhousing. It can get very, very hot in there and the fluid winds up getting cooked.

Some racers change it every weekend.

The bleeder is for all practical purposes inaccessible, so people resort to using a turkey baster to remove fluid from the reservoir, and then refill the reservoir with new fluid. Pump the pedal. Repeat a zillion times and you wind up freshening the fluid that's down in the lines and in the slave by dilution.

The remote bleeder is a far better solution. Force the old fluid out one end while drawing new fluid in the other end. The only reason not to use one is that they're tough to install, but if you've got the clutch out anyway, it's no big deal.

Are you having problems with your current clutch? If so, you might try changing the fluid before resorting to more extreme measures.

Actually my problem is that i hear some noise sometimes when i downshift and have the pedal pressed. So i bring it in to my local shop and they found 2 leaks, 1 is a transmision fluid leak and the other is rear axel leak. I have an extended warranty i hope its going to be covered. The guy doing the work recomended to have the clutch replaced since they are already going to have the transmision taken apart. He also suggested the ls7 clutch, i want to have an idea of how much its currently going for.

Contact (pm) Gene Culley for an updated price. Here's a listing from his Nov. Specials.

||--Genuine GM C6 Z06 Engine Components--||

24238412 – LS7 Clutch, pressure plate
12571611 – LS7 Flywheel

Both LS7 Clutch and LS7 flywheel are 473.52 shipped.
For both clutch and flywheel on our website, use part number ls7clutchkit under Chevrolet make.

Other items to consider :

The throwout bearing comes as part of the slave cylinder and it is
~$175.

Flywheel bolts are .90 each
Pressure plate bolts are .47 each

The LS2 & LS7 flywheels are the same so you might have it re-surfaced to save some money.

The remote bleeders sell for ~$59 from LAPD. Here's the link :
