Loved the Flowmasters until my buddy got the bullets... If you want the comparison, its basically the difference from having a C6 to having a Z06. Bang for the buck, Flowmasters are tough to compete with at about $350-375... But if you want better sound and hp, go with BB.
Money was not an issue I just don't like to throw it away. I have LG longtubes and have many friends that have lots of the different mufflers like the corsa's, Borla's etc. I am very happy with the Flowmasters. I have a manual tranny and don't get drone. The sound is very good but not too loud. Only gets loud when you are at WOT. Otherwise just sounds really good for a 1/3 the price. I would buy them again if I bought another vette!!!
I installed a set of Flowmasters 17427 less than a year ago to the stock system. Today I was under the car all day, installing Kooks 1-3/4 to 3x3 x-pipe to 2-1/2 into the Flowmasters. Much to my disapointment I only got the headers in O2 sensors completed. What took so long? My Flowmasters where rusted together to the stock system from the Flowmaster side. I had to hammer them off, given the clearence it was a real headache to put it nicely. I am guessing this is the lowpoint of my system & that's where the condensate collects & under pressure when the vehicle is operating it forces moisture into the slip fit connection hence lots of RUST! But it makes me wonder what does the inside of the muffler look like? The rest of the time was spent getting as much as it off as I could before I attach it to my shiny new stainless Kook's system. I do live on the Chesapeake Bay (saltwater) but the car for the most part doesn't even see rain, only when I'm out & can't make it home fast enough to avoid the rain. So for people considering Flowmasters this might be of value. I too thought $1000 for mufflers was insane, & for now I'm stuck w/ what I have 'cuz come hell or high water it'll be back together tomorrow. It has occurred to me to go back to the stock mufflers which I kept. I guess I'll sleep on it.
I have flowmaster 50 series on my car. Sound good, BUT - drone is horrible and they actually do not flow. I have heads/cam/supercharger and the car makes less power with the flowmasters compared to a corsa. I will have dyno results in a few weeks but the flowmasters are not flowing on my car. If you plan on mods in the future do not get them!! They are junk as far as flow is concerned.

The name Flowmaster is very decieving, in most applications the OEM mufflers flow better.
On a 2003 Mustang GT Borlas made 1-2hp more than Flowmaster.
On my 1996 Firebird Formula LT1 a FLowmaster cost me 7hp.
Very interesting stuff, I would be interested to see dyno results from long tube headers with stock axle back exhaust vs. corsa or borla vs. converting to stock ZO6 axle back... If I could pick up a used ZO6 exhaust for cheap, that might be the way to go...
