Default Need advice on exhaust for C6

I picked up my first Corvette (C6) in March and now want a more aggressive exhaust. I just got off the phone with Mid American who tells me the Borla system can be a little loud while crusing compared to the Corsa system. Any experience here? Also, make sense to go with a Corsa or Borla crosover pipe? Lastly, should I go all out with headers? Obviously, this will start getting expensive but just want some views. I love the new Vette but it is too quite. If I do all this, any idea of the extra horsepower over the stock 400?

I like MagnaFlow, but you will more opinions than you want. Try to find a local tuner than can refer you to customers with cars that you can listen to so that you get what you like the sound of.

You need to do a search. This topic is all over the place. Best thing would be to post to see if there is someone in your area with a set you might be interested in - see them and get a ride. Each system is different. That said, Corsa has a more European, high pitched sound, but does not have interior resonance (AKA drone). If you want an American muscle car sound they may not be for you. If you want really loud, Borla Stingers seem to do it. I have Zoomers - looks and sound is really good but there is drone and it gets tiresome on long trips. Others will have a different view of drone. If I were to go again, I would likely try Magnaflows but thats just me.

You may want to shop for a used set on the forum. That way you can test them out at a cheaper price and resell if you don't like them. If all you want is sound, there is no need to go to headers. Headers will require a retune so there is more $$$ for that too. There has been much debate over whether an exhaust system adds much hp. Likely not much. But as one person said in a post here a while back, "What can you do with 425 hp that you can't do with the 400 hp you now have". Unless you intend to race the car (street or otherwise) it may not matter.

On the X pipe - again, a matter of opinion. Its supposed to help with evening out the exhaust pulses. Most systems can be had as just "over the axle" or as a cat back. Again, an X pipe adds money.

I would go to some Vette get togthers and let your ears do the shopping. Ride in other C6's with different exhuast, to better help you make a choice.

I have the Borla Touring in mine. Not too loud at all. Nice rumble and breeze to install. I can actually tell that the car is running now.

B-T's and LG's here.

Noise level with top up is just barely acceptable.

I would not want any louder.

Top down (90% of time) it's prrrfect.

If you're looking to build a C6 monster, there are others with more informed opinions. If you're looking for a nice rumble with impressive performance, here's a proven combination.

- Callaway Honker Air Box
- Melrose Header System; includes 3" collectors into 3" (in/out) Random Technology bullet cats, into Random Technology 3" X-pipe. The very end of the 3" pipes neck down to 2.5" so it is compatable with stock and aftermarket C6 exhaust systems. The headers have a ceramic coating, inside and out, and look as nice today as when they were new.
- 2.5" Corsa Sport Exhaust.

At first I installed the air box and headers with the stock mufflers. The stock exhaust was a simple bolt on but it was still too quiet. With the Corsa, there is NO resonance and it now has a nice throaty rumble at idle that is not the least bit loud inside. It is quiet at cruising speeds but ROARS when you put your foot in it.

Stock the car dyno'd at 337 rwhp. With the above mods and a dyno tune it now has 384 rwhp. The seat-of-the-pants difference is amazing and the sound is perfect. I've had no "Check Engine" or other codes. I know other systems are just as good; I'm not sure you can beat the price of the Melrose system. Make sure you go with a proven combination.
