Default Cam/head gasket question

I have a Comp Cams 238/240 duration, .590/.590 lift, with 112 LSA + 2 that I will be installing. Through my research over this great wealth of knowledge, it appears it would be advisable to use aftermarket head gaskets (Fel Pro/Comatic) to retain some lower TQ. I will also be installing '04 LS6 ported/polished heads (not milled) with double VS and titanium retainers.

I am a little concerned about my P/V clearance.

From what I can ascertain, the LG G5X2 cam has characteristics very close. Can someone tell me that installed one of these if they encountered any clearance issues?

The G5x2 is a 232/240 on a 112 or 114 with a 2 degree advance. The X3 is a bit bigger and is the limit. Your cam will likely not fit without notching the pistons even with the stock gasket. You state 'it is advisable' to use aftermarket gaskets as if you think they make big cams fit better. They are the same or worse on fit. Thinner gaskets make the valve and the piston get closer to each other.

Good observations and thanks for the insight.

Notching the pistons is exactly what I'm trying to avoid. So, I guess the thinner gaskets will only complicate this situation.

What started me thinking along these lines with the LG cam was a post I read some time ago. I thought the larger X3 cam didn't need any fly cutting. I guess I need to go back and re-read that post.

Just trying to get most of my homework knocked out while I my hands are still grease-free....

Your cam is larger than the X3

The G5X3 is a great cam and you won't have any issues with piston to valve clearance. Make sure its the 114 version. We have several cam/headers setups making 440+ with incredible drivability with that setup.

If you pull the heads use a .030" gasket as that cam will like a compression bump.

I have the G5x3 on a 114 with Cometic .040 and it fits, I don't think a 112 fits even with stock gaskets.

Driveability is outstanding in my daily driver with the LS2 computer. I am surprised how docile the car is.

The LS6 heads are the same as on your car.
