the tallest you can find (lowest #), but then I don't think you can go any lower than what GM supplies us with. The car really would just bog at high gears

If you have a Z51 manual you could swap it out for the 2.56 in the base car...but I dont know how much better your gas milage would be.

I dont know what kind of milage the M6 Z51 gets.

Mine gets 28 at 75mph on flat land. I am sure that someone will report 30 or 35, but all I get is 28. Fuel millage is like purchase price, somebody always does better than me.

The key is this thing called "cruise control".

Well then there isnt really any noticeable difference if the 6speed Z51s get 28 at 75mpg...because that's exactly what my 2.56 geared C6 gets as well.

I love statements like that

Just because someone CAN afford the gas doesnt mean they dont care if it does get good gas. I love that my C6 averages 22.5mpg every tank....and would love it even more if it averaged 25mpg per tank.

You can care about something without it being an issue.

Agreed, completely.

I also take pride in the fact that my 440 hp sports car gets as good fuel economy as most family sedans. It wouldn't be nearly as impressive if it didn't.

You use more gas with the cruise control, especially if you live in areas that have hills (Northeast). I don't know how you guys do it, but 76mph=26-27mpg max for me. I average 18-19mpg per tank. Oh well, I suck

Ok, I am going to go on Ebay this morning and buy every gas saving device. The way I look at is that I will never need to buy gas again and may be able to sell the excess back to the oil company!

I would average closer to 19-20mpg per tank also, but I do 75% freeway driving due to going to and from work everyday...so it bumps the average up close to 23 for me.

My commute is 2.5 miles, so my normal mileage is actually about 14-16mpg

2.5mi trips aren't good for the car.

Taller gears are not going to save gas unless you do a lot of highway driving. If you drive gently and shift early, you are maximizing fuel economy. Taller gears will only help if you are cruising at 60 mph or more and can further reduce your rpms in 6th gear.
