GRMSVT went to see the grandkids on Christmas and took a hit on the windshield on the way home (PopPop driving not Gramie). Almost on the center of the windshield below the rear view mirror; about a quarter sized star. Called insurance (Liberty Mutual) and got connected to a glass specialist. They will send out a mobile repair tech to try to "repair" it for free. I understand that they attach a small machine to the affected spot and suck out any debris and air, then the hole is sealed. Supposed to reduce the "star" to about a nail-head size. Anyone had a windshield repaired in the manner? If I'm not satisfied with the repair then they'll replace the windshield for $100 deductible. I know on the C5 with the HUD the windshield is different from the non-HUD. Is it the same with the C6 with a HUD?
Update: The fix went pretty well. Guy did it in the parking lot in front of my work in about 10 minutes. He called it a "bullseye" instead of a "star". Anyway it has been reduced to about the size and look of a small mosquito squashed head on to the windshield.
GRAMIE is O.K. with the repair. Considering the alternative - remove and replace windshield with all the corresponding "what ifs" associated with such a repair -sealing, rear-view mirror problems, HUD not looking quite right - I think we'll live with the fix for awhile.
Thanks for your replies.

Reason: Update
I've had 3 such repairs and none of them ever looked like they said it would look. No risk to you but dont expect any magic like in the ads. You will still see the same size crack before and after. If they fix it and you go on your way and it spreads dont beleive them when they say it wont count as a second claim. I was told that and it spread a few months later and they handled it as a second claim.
Get the glass replaced. It is still an incident on your record either way.
I have a small crack on my windshield as well.....i had bought a kit and i fixed it today......i can still see almost the same crack.....but i dont know if its spreading yet soo i have too see.....:/ if you find a place that will replace it for cheap let me know
I got a big chip over the weekend too. Nice big star with 5 or 6 points. Only good thing is it's near the bottom passenger side corner. I saw your post scottycards, and I want to try that. Kmart didn't have one but I'll check the auto parts stores today. Even if it's not perfect, I'd rather have a little imperfection, than have the hassle and worry of getting it replaced.

Spin is right on, I don't think you will be happy unless you plan to trade soon.
Get it replaced. If your insurance has a size requirement. You can put a ice cube on the windshield and the crack will follow the ice cube where ever you want it. It works great in the summer time. You might need to put her in the garage maybe not in CA. Don't crack a smile or write your name with it.
