Please forgive my noobness, I am planning to put aftermarket rims and will be using the stock TPS. Where are they located? Inside the rim itself or on the outside, Does the tire installer have to unmount the tires from the original rims to replace them, thanks Happy New Year
They are a 1-piece unit. The valve stem with the sensor base which is designed to rest on the inside lip of the rim - when shopping for aftermarket rims - make sure you check with the vendor to ensure your TPS will fit - not all wheels are designed to accomidate the TPS.
Does anyone happen to know if you can get the retainer nuts in chrome?
TIA
Kelly
Not that I know of.
The valve stem is supposed to be part of the antenna system of the transmitter in the sensor. The installers make a big deal about not even putting on chrome valve stem caps. However, I've had chrome caps for a couple years with no problems.
On some aftermarket wheels the sensors won't mount in the valve stem holes and have to be banded/strapped inside the wheels. I've seen some posts showing sensors with the valve stem (antenna?) cut off and they apparently still work okay. There is now a bracket available that looks like a better mount than banding if the sensor won't fit as in an OE wheel.
So...they don't seem to make any chromed retaining nuts. I have the regular ones on my chrome wheels and don't even notice them not being chromed.
