Default Rear shafts

At what point--power and performance handling wise--is it prudent to do work on the rear end of the car?

Thanks,
Rob

IMHO it depends more on what you want to do with the car and your trans vs the power you add. For example, if you drag race a lot you better get a DTE brace to save your trans if you are a manual. On the other hand road racers don't need to do much if anything to the red except put a cooler on it. And if you put a supercharger on to drive to car shows then you don't need to do anything.

Drag racing a lot with a manual dictates the need for rear mods IMHO.

It is usually a good idea to not wait until the rear diff breaks to make it stronger. Damage is likely to cause 100's in repairs with no performance gain. A beefed up rear diff with HD shafts will help keep you from killing the trans shaft in a failure by not having a failure.

I split the case in two on mine. 100% stock on factory runflats about 2500 rpm. I didn't dump the clutch but I let it out pretty fast. I'll just say, faster than it could slip. Took about half a second to put about two quarts of oil on the street. I Will be getting a DTE diff and diff strut before I get my 402. Mine is a 2005, and '05s had a weaker diff than the '06s because of a redesign. I got a '06 diff from warranty, but I still have no faith in the stock ones now. For sure get the DTE brace if your going for more power, and if you have the money, I'd even go for the DTE diff.

I did exactly what "ALLTHROTTLE&NOBOTTLE" did in this thread.

Edit: Oh and if you're worried about half-saft strength, DTE said to use '04 C5 Z06 halfshafts.
