Default LS3 Killer Bee install for those interested

All,

Installed a Killer Bee in my '08 today. I figured I'd share a few thoughts and some pics. See Post #27 in the thread below.

Got mine coming from southercarparts early this week. Thank you for sharing. I have seen some negative thoughts on it, and I am feeling good about purchasing it after ready this.

The intake is a quality piece, no doubt. You're definitely getting more air volume and faster, but I'm just not sure sure about the *hot* air the halltech is sucking in. Seems like it's defeating the purpose!

Initially I wanted a real CAI but I didn't want to hack on my new '08, worry about wet filters, etc, which is why I went this route. This is a 365 daily driver so I can't worry about crazy rainstorms etc here in Austin. Had I decided to hack, it would of certainly been a Honker because I don't like the way the Vararam looks/fits (especially the gap between the unit and the shroud). For the Honker you have to pull the shroud and its PITA on top of the fact that you have to unhook the Z51 oil cooler lines on this car. Anyhow.....when with the slick Killer Bee.

Maybe some day I'll "sort of" hack on the shroud and install a Vette-Air.

I just did mine today, too. The PCV valve/tube is a PITA to get to fit on the short Halltech coupler. I finally removed and heated the pipe (plastic) in boiling water so I could bend it enough to fit the angle I wanted. Worked! Raining right now, so I guess I won't try it out until tomorrow...... Looks good anyway.

I think this is often misunderstood. The Halltech is not sucking in "hot" air all the time. On the dyno (hood closed),in slow heavy traffic,or staging for a 1/4 mile run sure it is. Once the car is moving and air starts to flow it breathes cooler ambient air. I'm not saying it's the best system out there but for the way I usually drive it works just fine (I don't race etc..). The IAT's may not cool down as fast as some of the other systems but it still sucks cool air once moving. If you don't have the ability to measure you IAT simply feel your intake immediately after driving especially on a cool day. On a 70 degree day like today my filter, air bridge,MAF,and intake are actually cold. For someone who doesn't want to cut their shroud (like me) I think the Halltech is a very good option. Again, it may not be the best (Vararam guys) but it is a good system.
