Since you dont track your car, do the free air mod. It does have benefit
of better and cooler air flow. In fact, it cut .10 second off my 1/4 mile time.

The K&N is what is known as a WARM air fillter, just like the stock one, just bigger. But both allow warm engine air under the hood into the filter. A true COLD air system is a closed system, whereby you cut an area into the shroud and that is where the new filter resides. Its a closed system which does not allow warm engine air under the hood in. In reality there is nothing wrong with the stock air filter, it just lets warm air in.

Since I drag race my car, I removed the stock filter and added an Xcelerator cold air inlet. You close the shroud when adding a CAI since the new filter is exposed to the cooler air flow in the shroud. I picked up almost another .10 in the 1/4 mile.
Thanks. I'll probably try that.
