Default Brake Pad question...

Are the FE2 and Z51 spec brake pads simply a different composition, or also a different size?

Here's the situation...I'm using my company's catalog software to put together some brake packages for popular performance cars.

According to our cat, Hawk Friction lists pads only as "except Z06" or "Z06"...Now other brands separate some of their series into "base" and "performance handling", but the Hawk does not.

Would a single Hawk ceramic part number fit on both base and Z51/F55 equipped C6s?

P.S. - I'm also curious as to which pads you guys are going with to reduce the infamous Z51 dust....I HATE cleaning my wheels every 50 miles!

Both base and Z51 use the same calipers hence the same sized pads..(I think there's a piston diameter difference on the rear Z51 but no physical size difference in the caliper or brake pad)

FMSI #'s 731 and 732 cover all models 97 and up excluding the Z06. Compounds are going to vary from one manufacturer to another. Hawk differentiates between the ceramics and the HPS's with the letters Z and F respectively after the part number (HB247Z.575 or HB247F.575). Other manufactures may have completely different part numbers for different compounds and make recommendations based on whether or not it's a Z51.

I always recommend ceramics for street cars unless ultimate performance is the customer's goal. That's when the HPS's are advised. They dust like hell though!

and although I do have access to sell hawk ceramics, I recommend the GM ceramics. They are a lot cheaper and just as good.
