What mode is the trans in when you go to WOT? What is theirs in?
Your friends is an A6 too, correct? My 07 and most others I've spoken to do the same thing. It's the single most annoying thing about the entire car. Upshifts are fine, but it lays down like a dog when it drops a gear or two with your foot in it.
The tranny only "learns" in drive so if you don't teach it to be agressive in "D" it won't shift the way you want it to. I have read posts saying that if you drive it agresssivly in drive it will fix the shift problem you describe. Hope that helps!
is it in "S" or "D" it makes a difference at least in my car "S" shifts much quicker.
The PT & WOT shift tables are identical for D & S. I cannot attest how the learning may effect either. It's "possible" there could be modifier tables but that info is not available with HPtuners (yet).
get the TM tune, it will downshift like a "raped ape"
Turning the downshift TM off is not the solution, the acceleration lag after a downshift is still present. The resulting slammed downshift only makes driving unpleasant and potentially dangerous, IMO.
I noticed the same annoying thing. I thought after I installed a FAST and a VaraRam, this problem became apparent, but not so because others have noticed it when stock, therefore, they say it's just the nature of the trans. I have a DiabloSport 91-Octane tune which didn't seem to fix anything either, so I'm not sure how to overcome that, but I'm sure there must be a way....

I respectfully disagree. I have had my car tuned and during the process my tuner disabled all TM fields (Upshift, Downshift, CT downshift, Garage shift) and it now shifts like an animal (I'm sure the tune itself has something to do with this as well). The best way to describe it is that it now shifts like a manual. On upshifts, it's just as if you are quickly dropping the clutch just like a manual. On down shifts, it's the same feeling - shifting down a gear or two and dropping the clutch. To me it is no more dangerous than a manual. In a manual, you get instant engagement when dropping the clutch - whether it is an upshift or downshift. I don't hear too many manual drivers saying this is dangerous. To my point - when driving a manual, you've got to be ready for the power to come on when hitting the throttle and dumping the clutch. With TM disabled in an auto, it is the same feeling. You had better be ready for power when you put your foot to the pedal.
Fair enough, but we agree, turning off TM for ALL shifts is like dumping the clutch for every shift. Can't say I've ever driven a manual and wanted to dump the clutch for every shift. I guess I'm just a control freak.
Just out of couriosity, did you ever wonder why your tuner disabled garage shift TM?

You cannot tell that TM is disabled on downshifts with just normal, everyday driving. So it is not as if you are dumping the clutch on every shift. You can really only notice a difference when the put the pedal to the metal. When you do this, you mean business and the tranny will downshift hard, just as it would if you were driving a manual with the intent of downshifting hard while putting the pedal down. It's tame with average driving, but an animal when jumping on it. You gotta be ready for the power, just as you would when driving a manual
The reason we disabled everything is because we wanted to make sure we were getting the best performance. Even though it says Garage Shift, he was not convinced it might not have some sort of effect on other shift paramenters. Bottom line, we really couldn't tell much difference when making a garage shift (going from park to drive) with "Garage Shift" disabled so we just decided to keep it disabled. Hope this helps.
im thinkin the reason why my car is the way it is, is because no two cars are alike when they come out of factory im guessing they messed up on my factory tune and an a custom tune will fix my problem. What do you think? and if so who do you recomend for a custom tune?

Absolutely, have it tuned!!! I don't think they messed up your factory tune, that's just the way they come. My Vette is basically stock. I had it tuned and it really woke up my car. My tuner not only tuned the engine, but the tranny as well. We changed the shift points so that it shifts at around 2000 rpm’s in each gear along with disabling TM. No more hesitation when jumping on it and the shifts are hard and strong. I highly recommend a tune even if your car is stock.

My stock A6, 07, takes off, like a rocket. In fact at 30 MPH, it breaks the tires loose, especially in cold weather, when the tires (F55) don't like to bite. -- --
