Default Question about fob.

OK,,hope this doesn't sound too stupid but,,if I program a 2nd driver setting (seat,,exterior mirrors, steering wheel) and then start the car using the #2 fob (remember now I still have the settings in place for the #1 fob or #1 driver),,should the seat and all the rest automatically adjust to the number 2 driver,,or do I have to manually press the #2 button,,it seems this is the only way I can get to the 2nd driver setting no matter which fob I use to start the car. The owners manually doesn't say if using the #1 or #2 fob will give you the corresponding settings,,thanks.

Perhaps it is different for A6 cars, but the only purpose the FOB serves in this activity with my car is to permit you to program the settings.

The way my MN6 car operates is the FOB on your person, and the driver position settings, operate completely independently. Once the position settings are made, the FOB has nothing more to do with the driver position settings...you select driver settings by pushing the appropriate button; nothing is done automatically.

Thanks ,apparently thats the same way on the 08,,the owners manually is a little vague on the subject,,it says on page 1-4 of the 08 owners manual,,"the numbers on the back of the keyless access transmitters correspond to the numbers on the memory buttons",,so I first thought that if you started the car using the #2 tranmitter,, the settings would automatically go to the #2 positions.

From the 2008 Corvette Owner's Manual, p. 3-72:

DIC Vehicle Personalization

Many features on your vehicle can be personalized.
This means that the operation of these features can be
set to operate differently depending on who is driving
the vehicle. See “Personal Options” later in this section
for the features that you can personalize.
The personalization settings for other features are
automatically updated and saved as the driver adjusts
them. These include the following settings and presets:

• The radio presets, tone, volume, fade, balance,
equalization (EQ) settings and source (radio or CD)
• The last climate control setting
• The Head-Up Display (HUD) position and dimming
level, if your vehicle has this feature
• The instrument panel cluster dimming level and last
selected DIC display

Separate personalization settings are saved for
two different drivers. One of the keyless access
transmitters is assigned to driver 1. The other is
assigned to driver 2. The back of the keyless access
transmitters are labelled 1 or 2 to correspond to
each driver.

The current driver’s preferences are recalled when one
of the following occurs:

• The lock or unlock button on the keyless access
transmitter, labelled 1 or 2, is pressed.
• The appropriate memory button, 1 or 2, located on
the driver’s door is pressed. See Memory Seat,
Mirrors and Steering Wheel on page 1-4 for more
information.
• A valid keyless access transmitter is detected upon
opening the driver’s door.
If more than one valid keyless access transmitter is
detected upon opening the driver’s door, the driver
preferences for the lowest driver number will be recalled.

My recollection of the details is vague, but if you have an automatic transmission, I believe the seat and mirrors automatically adjust according to FOB number after the door is closed. For manual transmission cars, the car only "reads" the FOB presets...you have to push the button. I believe the logic is they don't want the seat moving around unexpectedly with a manual transmission car being started with your foot on the clutch pedal.

Once the car is started, I'm pretty sure either driver settings can be selected with the buttons. Otherwise, a quick roadside change of drivers on a long trip would be a PITA; the car would have to shut down, then restarted with the second FOB. Another reason for this to be true is, if the FOB 2 driver wants to drive and FOB 1 is still detected as being in the car, the second driver would not be able to change the seat to his settings without resorting to manual adjustment because the car defaults to the lowest detected FOB number settings.

Ok just for a test I did the following,,although the car wasn't locked when I started this,,I got in the car with the #2 fob,,started the car,,the seat did nothing,,stayed at the exit setting I had when I shut down the last time (had #1 fob in my pocket at that time),,I pressed the lock button on #2 fob,,nothing,,pressed the unlock button,,again nothing,,(the DIC did say driver 2),,only time I could get the seat to go to the #2 setting was to press the #2 button on the door,,this isn't a big deal with me as I will probably be the only one to ever drive the car,,I'm just trying to figure out the options on it,,thanks again.

With the auto tranny, the seat, mirrors, etc. automatically take the driving position immediately after the engine starts. The seat and steering wheel automatically take the exit position after the engine has been stopped and the driver's door is opened.

Notice that I'm talking about the automatic positioning, where you didn't press one of the memory buttons.

With the manual tranny, you must push the button on the door to get the seat to move for the driving position.

Thanks Jim,,I'm well aware of the order that takes place,,my original question concerned weather having the #1 or #2 transmitter on you when you start the car would automatically affect the driver settings for that paticular transmitter.
