The only difference between the engines in Corvettes of today and say a 68 Vette, is the electronics. The rotating asemblies are pretty much the same. So why does the new Vette require Synthetic oil? Didn't all the older Vettes with big blocks and hig revving, high horsepower small blocks use conventional oil? I bet you could use conventional oil in a new Vette and not have a single problem
I know from the outside the engine looks, sounds, and operates basically the same as the old 350's and 427's, but a lot of it is in the tolerances that are much tighter. Different metals are used with different rod bearings, p rings, main caps, and so on.
Would a regular oil work, of course, but not for long engine life specially if you push the engine hard. Over the last 2 years I have studied oils and have found that not only synthetics are better, but light years ahead of base 1,2, and 3 oils. You can't even compare them, even the numbers on the bottle don't match up because the synthetic is so far superior to it in every way. It would take all night to go into the details, but trust me there is a BIG DIFFERENCE between the two.
