I put new rotors and pads on my 05 m6 F55 and thought I would tell you what I think so far. The original rotors and pads had 30,000 miles on them, with no problems other then a slight squeal under moderate braking, hot. As you can see from the pictures below, the rotors were rusty, but in good shape. The pads actually had about half of the pad left(was impressed by that). I was going to put more expensive rotors on, but I don't roadrace and heard these rotors actually weren't too bad. The new rotors I put on were generic CTEK rotors and Raybestos QS Pads. I have driven on them for 400 miles now. They are very quiet, there is hardly any dust and I think they look alot better on, then the originals. Stopping under light braking and hard braking is about the same and I haven't had any horror stories like I've seen with some posts. I broke them in by just driving normally. Raybestos states their brake pads don't need to be broken in. If I have any problems I'll let you know. Here are the pics. The inside of the wheels were already dirty, time to get my toothbrush out.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but you really cannot tell the difference with light and hard braking under street conditions. Certian pads might grab more initially or mid braking or towards the end, but the overall stopping distance is really the main judge of braking. In other words, the feel isn't enough to really tell the braking effectiveness.
It is another story if you take it to a roadcourse. You will be able to tell immediately if one set is better than the other if you need to slow the car from 135 to 90 in a few seconds. If you run out of room, then that brake setup isn't as good. That is the true test.
Although I do agree with you that the new rotors look better than the old ones.
No bubble busted. This was just more of an appearance thing. The hard and slight brakeing comment had to do with pedal feel, more then whether they stopped any shorter. I'm sure they probably don't since I went to a ceramic pad. Also, I've seen some road tests where big brake systems didn't stop the car any quicker, but get it on a road course and they never fade like the light duty systems. I never road race, so I didn't want to spend alot of money to just get an appearance upgrade. Hopefully, I won't have any problems with these or it's back to stock.
