I had a similar idea not too long ago, I was going to cut up a stock muffler and reweld but when I got it apart it was just too hacked up to work. I know somebody was doing this on the forum successfully, but I have no idea how they were getting them apart and how they were getting them back together. I remember there was a point when I realized it was more trouble than it was worth, something to due with the internal routing I think. Sorry I can't be of more help.
Don't waste your time. I did it just hoping to make a little more noise. I cut them open, removed the glass packaging, cut the pipes out, where it would force the gasses into the upper section of the muffler then force it out the lower hoping for a almost straight through effect. Welded 2 plates over the holes where I cut out the center pipes. Welded them back together, fired it up and it might be 10% louder. Total waste of time. Spent 5 hours cutting and welding, not to mention the time to remove and replace them. I recommend don't do it. Cheap way to make noise, is either reomve the cats and run stock mufflers or get a flowmaster that will fit and weld it onto your stock pipes and tips.
