My transmission is stuck and will only let me go into drive or neutral.. I can't even get it to go into park or into any other position but drive or neutral. Now my car is sitting in the garage in neutral with the e-brake up and the car on because it won't turn off because it's not in park.. Any idea what in the world is wrong? The car is bone stock with only 9000 miles..
Man that sucks, wish I could help you out but Im no mechanic. The only thing I can offer is.. I know back in the day if you had a car that would run-on after turning ignition off you could block the carb with something to prevent the cylinders from getting oxygen. But Im not sure if you could do any damage to C6 by choking it out.maybe you can call Onstar or GM warranty services.Good luck
Same thing happened to me. I believe the reverse lock out latch broke and locked it into Neutral or drive. Easy, quick fix at the dealers.
That's exactly what it is, it hasn't happened to mine at all and it's certainly not a common problem but it has happened, it's simply a little plastic piece that gets loose and jams itself in there.
I've had this happen a number of times in my 2007 the last time I just push the handle very hard and it went into Park and worked fine ever since. The dealer has offered to replace the entire shifter because this is a problem on the automatic. I have a custom boot and they won't put it on the new shifter because it's all one part.
Happened to me a few months back. To this day I still believe I tapped the brake pedal slightly causing the lockout mechanism to flutter and caused a weird jam. No probs since, here is my post.
I had the same issue with the POS A6. Actually other issues too. Research my posts and you will find a few rants. Justifiably so.
Couldn't park the car, all I had were D and N. No other gears, no P,R,S. I was just a few minutes from the dealer and drove there. The next day, the tech found a half dozen DTC's tripped for no reason. He speculated a voltage spike or anomoly tripped the bogus DTC's and locked up the circuitry. He cleared the codes and I was on my way. Later, I traded that POS for a Vert manual and have enjoyed myself since. Every time I think about that A6 I do a slow burn.
