Default ceramic pad clips

I posted this in the General foum with ZZEERROO responses.

I did a search and used the clips supplied with the new pads

that fit inside the caliper.

Question 1) why doesn't the caliper have clips in them to begin with?

Question 2) what would happen if I didn't use them?

Question 3) Are the clips meant to keep the pads tight?

The front clips were a pain when I rotated the caliper back up

to put the bolt back in. I needed alot of elbow grease to get the

caliper for enough to put the bolt in.

Thanks from a novice mechanic at best.

Default My guess

I believe that the directions state that the front pads are manufactured for more than one vehicle application, therefore they supplied two different types of clips. My rear pads had the clips attached to them.

I assume that you compressed the pistons to allow for easy installation and also lubricated the points per instructions.

I can't answer the other questions. Keep waving.

I am assuming you are referring to the clips that go in the top of the middle of the caliper, not the ones on the brackets.

Those clips were used on the C5, but not on the C6. It is just fine to leave them off. I think they are for anti-rattle, and they realized the clips were overkill, or just wanted to save .05 per car.

Correct, the clips in the middle of the caliper. I used them and

haven't noticed anything adverse. I looked for a thread I read

about them and couldn't find it. Thanks for the replies, got my

questions answered.
