Can anybody tell me where the FM radio antenna is located on a 1LT with the base radio???
I called XM to renew my service on my Silverado, and they sold me on XM for the Vette via an aftermarket unit. The instructions call for tapping on to the FM antenna........I Can't find the antenna
Outside of the rear compartment panel, forward of the rear fascia.
You may be able to see it if you remove an inboard tail light.
XM uses it own antenna. I do not think you want to tap in to the FM antenna for XM.
The unit I bought is the Sportcaster. It comes with it's own antenna, yes, but the instructions state that the unit itself needs to be tapped onto the existing FM antenna, so the unit can relay it's XM signal to the stock radio via the FM antenna....It comes with 2 different types of adapters: A clamp-on style for a regular traditional antenna, and a stick-on adapter for the window antennas.
Do yourself a favor and get an in-line adapter that ties into the antenna WIRE behind the dash. Your unit converts the XM sat signal into FM that will be broadcast through an unused FM freq that you select in the new XM receiver unit. Most come with a poor quality FM wireless transmitter but can use the in-line style. If you go to a shop, even Best Buy, they will install it for you, hide all of the wires, use the correct adapters, for a small price. I have the XM Commander and it fits perfectly into my unused ashtray with 1 small hole in the side of the tray where all of the wires go through to the back side of the dash. I bought it at an different shop and went to Best Buy for the install, they are contract installers so they don't care where you bought it. Have a good job done and you'll like it more!
Almost forgot. If you or someone else installs it, under the hood, drivers side is a small depression that is PERFECT for the sat antenna. The hood is not metal so there is no interference.

Reason: more info
Yep, we '07 base radio types have no choice but to go that way. Even changing to a '08 HU does no good ... we are lacking a crucial wire of some sort! BUT, it's my understanding that our base system actually sounds better than the Bose ... although lacking some features.
I had a Bose system in my '07 MX5 and it SUCKED!!

Thank you very much....This is just the info I was looking for. I kind of figured that it would have to be wired in directly
A small problem with using the FM reciever as a source for XM or Sirius.
If you travel the unused FM station that you find at home my be in use in other areas. I have a Sirius add on in my Yukon and on a trip that I make frequently that unused station is active.
You have to retune to an unsued station on that part of the trip.
I have a Sirius Sportster and it doesn't have any requirement to tape or have its antenna on or near the cars antenna cable. In fact I have a base in my house and I can receive the signal on every radio/stereo in the house and the car when its sitting in the driveway.
Thrill - I'm sure that is true, but from my experience with other cars, the wireless signal is much degraded. Poor/low bass, poor/low sound quality in general. My $.02
