Default Roller Rocker question

Ok I am pretty sure I know what these are they go up top by the lifters right? My question is how much HP will I get from changing out to new roller rockers? Can some one explain the different sizes to me 1.8, 1.85 ect... Will I loose any reliability or gas mileage (provided I stay off the gas

I've got the SLP 1.85 rockers. Now to be honest, a cam would be the better way to go. You will gain more power and torque with even a baby cam...or should at least. However, since you asked. At the peak, I made 18rwhp and 25rwtq SAE but the tune was a bit aggressive. So after the tune, I made 15rwhp and 22rwtq SAE. The dyno showed gains throughout the rpm range as well. No change in idle, drivability or mpg.

So the gain is a bit negligible since you almost get that out of a good tune... Just wondering I don't want a cam because I drive the vette almost every day gas mileage and reliability are a bit of an issue for me. How hard is it to change rockers on an LS2. I have a friend that has does his own H\C work so he has some experience just wondering if it can be done in a day or two.

I am strting to think that rr's should be considered if doing a head swap only(no cam ) and since you are there anyway go for em but to do them as a sole mod they are not that great. This is based on what I have read no personal experience

No, I already had a tune so my gains were on top of the tune. Just that the original tune was a bit aggressive in timing so it was retuned. I didn't install mine, had them installed for $150 bucks.

I've got a set that may be for sale (let me check with one prospective buyer to see if he REALLY wants them).

The ones I have are NOT roller rockers. Roller rockers have a roller on the tip that pushes down on the top of the valve stem.

The ones I have are like the ones bunk22 has - the SLP 1.85 ratio rockers (stock rockers are 1.7 ratio). These would bolt right onto any LS1, LS2, or LS6 engine (they're a very popular mod on the F-bodies). They won't fit on the 2008 LS3 engines, or the LS7.

The SLP rockers look exactly like the stock rockers, and they are a direct bolt on replacement for the stock. No head or valve cover mods are needed. The 1.85 ratio just increases valve lift a little, like a mild cam, and as bunk 22 said, should be good for a 15 hp increase.

The stuff I have is available for $800 and it all adds up to about $1300 retail.

I got a Z06 so I'm not doing any more mods to the '05 coupe.

In addition to the rockers, I've also got a FAST intake with a couple of kits for mounting it.

I took a bunch of pictures the other day and made a video of the Harland Sharp bearing mod in preparation to put up a "for sale" listing on the forum. I haven't put them in the for sale section yet, but below is what I'm working up to list them.

Bob
------------------------------------------------------

These rockers are a great mod for a simple bolt-on installation - the affect of a mild cam without going into the engine. Just take off the stock rockers, pull out the pushrods and drop the new ones in, swap out the springs, bolt on the the new rockers, and you gain something like 15 hp. They require absolutely no shims or other adjustments, and absolutely no mod is required to the valve covers.

If you add up the prices on everything it comes up to about $1300 new.

Entire kit available for $800

Everything except the rockers and pushrods are brand new, and I consider the rockers BETTER than new with the Harland Sharp bearings in them.

Here's a closeup of the rockers. They are packaged in the plastic that Harland Sharp sent them to me in. I removed one from the plastic wrap to check it out. I think they put roller bearings in rather than needle bearings, but I'm not sure. The action is really smooth:

Take a look at this video of the bearing action - after Harland Sharp rebuilt the bearings the rockers rotate freely 360 degrees, but before that they were like stock rockers and had some stops that only let them rotate a limited amount:

These are the springs with the box never opened and still sealed in the plastic wrap it came in. They had a recall of these because they had a bad batch with some springs breaking last summer. I'm supposed to get a box of new springs soon and I have to send this box of old ones back. You'll be getting the brand new ones that are supposed to be a much better spring with a higher lift capability before coil bind (in that link below the picture you can see the specs for the new 26918 springs you'll be getting):

Here are the titanium retainers and locks still brand new in unopened bags/boxes:

These are the hardened pushrods I got. They were supposedly used, but they look brand new to me:

Oh ok I was thinking about doing it in harmony with a header\catback\intake and tb porting mod weekend. Obviously I would get it tuned after that. If it's good for 15hp and the part isn't that expensive then why not.

If you are interested, I have a set of very nice shaft-mount 1.85 roller rockers. These are ultra-strong comp units and they do not have clearance issues. The set is normally $1100, you can have them for $500. They were good for about 15hp. I have since done a full top-end rebuild, so these are just sitting around.
