Default Best bang for the buck

I know $500-$700 won't get me much but I was wondering what would be the best bang for the buck with that kinda cash. Also if I cut the mufflers out and bend pipes in place of them would that just be the same as ordering a straight pipe kit? As in making it louder? Maybe adding more power? Might sound stupid but I'm just curious. Thanks. -Chris

I would say do a vararam intake and a diablo predator.

A CAI will give you the best bang for the buck. The factory tune starts pulling timing at 86 degrees IAT and pulls 11-12 degrees of timing at 150 degrees which you get in the staging lanes easily. The CAI gives you back your timing by providing much cooler air. I got .4 and 3 mph in the 1/4 from a vararam and ported intake.

Straight pipes would drive you crazy it's so loud. Well would drive me crazy, unless you trailered your car to the race track only. My buddy has them and it's unusable on the street. I have cutouts, they are great at the track but too much to use all the time.

CAI-Vararam, Callaway, or LPE and a tune.

With the C6, there really isn't a whole lot you can do for $500-700. However the above two mods will certainly add hp and make the car more fun to drive.

Forget about straight pipes. If you want sound, save up for a real exhaust system. Or go with headers and get decent sound and performance.

As others have said - don't cut your pipes! CAI (LPE, Callaway, or Vararam) and a tune. Add in 600-700 more and buy a used cat back. If you want loud, I think Borla Stingers will do it.

Just had Chuck from COW do a street tune.Let me tell you its the best $400.00 I,v ever spent. Its like a whole new car, much more responsive, no more soft lazy shifts from the A6 trans. The car now lunges during shifts, feels like I added 30 to 40 horse power. Find a good tuner in your area or better yet get it to Chuck @ Corvettes of Whinchester.

Corvettes of WESTCHESTER! We're not in England.

We're in NEW YORK!

Thanks for the great review.

For anyone wanting a really nice wakeup for their Corvette....

CALL ME FOR A VARARAM! Then we'll talk about a stat and tune.

You'll be really happy and won't have spent a lot of money.

STAY TUNED!

CAI (Vararam is what I prefer) tune+t-stat will pretty much max out your budget and are easy to reverse down the road.

I've got Borla stingers and I think they purr like a kitten. I don't think they are very loud at all. I was thinking of getting something louder. I vote for straight pipes.. How about a sound clip..

For the best results with $ 500 -$ 700 bucks is a good CAI (IMO a Vararam) & a good tune. The CAI didn't get me .4 sec & I think in most cases that's a little optimistic. However, you will pick up .1 to .2 secs realisticly & another .1 to .2 with a good tune. If you do better, that's gravy!

Thanks for all your input guys. I had B&B exhaust on my C5 it had no mufflers either and I loved the sound of it. Loud and aggressive. How much louder do you think it will really be on a C6?

Some of the best mods for the C6 are free or cheap. Put in a 160 T-stat for $25.00 to keep your water temps down. Then try the "free air mod" (see below) with the stock filter. About the same ram air effect of the pricey CAI's (though a true closed CAI system will keep your IAT's cooler). I saved almost .20 in the 1/4 mile and picked up 2 mph.
